I found this on eBay, haven't ever seen one of these before. The seller told me it has the rectangular ports so it's definitely for a 12v. I like the gentle, large-radius runner bends of the outer cylinders, much unlike the sharp ones of the stock manifold (and the HTT & ATS pieces for that matter). It's Cummins part number 3973422. I just went out and looked at my '96 and I don't think it would be too major of a project to install on a manual 12-valve, but it definitely wouldn't be a simple swapout with the stocker. You'd have to put a 45* adapter for your turbo oil line and likely have to rework or redo the turbo-to-intercooler pipe. As you can see the turbo inlet is vertical instead of angled. Also it appears to have two pyro probe bungs at the outlet. Looks like a decent piece, someone oughta pick it up :)

eBay Motors: Cummins Marine exhaust manifold # 3973422 new (item 270118539415 end time May-15-07 07:37:28 PDT)

it may be a manifold, but it sure isnt a marine one! like stated above, the marine manifolds are wet, have sea water goin around them to cool them, especially on a 370 B, dont know what that manifold goes on.

If you are seriously interested ask for the part number cast into it. Then it can be determined what it fits. Shadrach

has anyone thought of putting a marine manifold on and plumbing coolant through it? maybe it would help cool off EGTs a tad, and possibly help heat up the engine faster in the winter?

If it's like most other marine applications the water enters the manifold and exits out the exhaust, not circulated back into the coolant system.

I've had a couple of commercial fish boats. Both of them had stacks so no water out the exhaust. The cooling water goes through a heat exchanger and the exhaust manifold before going out the side of the boat. One of them had a keel cooler so the cooling water only when through the exhaust manifold then through the side of the boat.

I think youd see a large increease in time it takes to spool up, since heat helps drive the turbine. The egt reading on the gauge would decrease, but ultimatley the head build up in the cylinder will remain the same. with the lower EGT readings, you'd be more likely to add more fuel and melt a piston since you would be seeing a somewhat flawed reading.

The marine exh manifolds also have a water cooled turbo on them and the turbo mounts on the rear end of the manifold or on the top. Not enough room in a Dodge. Shadrach

Joe, is there anything that you haven't done?;)

Some of us who may appear to have lots of tidbits of info across a wide spectrum of subjects, got it the hard way - from living lots longer than most of the whipper-snappers on boards like this... :p :-laf

I suspect a few of us would gladly trade what we've learned thru all those years, just to be a "know-it-all" mouthy 20 year old again! :-laf Oo.

Oh, I absolutely meant no disrespect! :) I am constantly amazed at the broad range of experience of TDR members and some in particular, like Joe G. , seem to have done a little of everything at one time or another in their life. And, yeah, I'd like to be that 20 year old know-it-all myself. :D

I'll be 70 next year. Hard to believe since I'm still in pretty good shape. Pretty tarred this evening since I did a days work building a shed in my back yard. Not finished so back at it again tomorrow. I really enjoyed the commercial fishing I did. If the industry had not gone belly up I would still be doing that. A close friend of mine is in his '90s. He is the guy to ask when you want to know about marine diesels.
