Competition Competition Eliminator Video

Hey guys, I have a 40/16 I dyno'd 340HP on fuel only. I have been hearing that the 40 is not a tuff turbo because of the shaft size. Anyone running a 40 with N2O? Besides me :-laf what are the limits? Is it much easier on it in a twin configuration? That is my next step after the normal head work.

Thanks

Brenden

How many 40's have you blown up? What size jets? How much power on #2 only? Any of them in a twin set up? Milage?

Thanks

Back when these HX-40's were still considered Hybrids and Diesel Drag Racing was in its infancy, I personally know of 4 of em that blew up with N02 . . . . .

And I shredded the wheels in one also- it's a decent turbo- just not too tough.

Thanks for the replys guys. I am trying to see how hard you can run them before they pop.

TURBOs4LIFE what jet do you use? How much power on #2 only? how many miles do you have on it?

Thanks

Brenden

Right now I am running a #28 jet on the first stage and a #41 jet on the second stage. I dont know the power with my current injectors I havent dynoed yet. I have about 65,000 miles on the PDR HX-40. I have used DD 3's 2 times a set of Bully dog 7's and my current Dyno-mite 150's all with the HX-40.

I'd think that should make around 60-70hp gain with both stages.

40's don't like the acceleration associated with a shot of nitrous. Bad things happen.

Thanks guys. So what do you think about it in a twin setup? Would that soften the blow to it? I am going to build some twins but I will go with a different top turbo if it won't handle it. How about the BHT3b? Will it handle the spray?

The other day I ran a . 073 Jet and gained 71 horspower.

Thanks

Brenden

I am running the PDR street twins and looking at this too. Piers, can you respond to this? Will the HX40 / HT3B stand up to the NO2? Maybe 2-stage 200 shot? None of the dumb stuff I've done so far has messed them up, why not feed em more drugs?

Twins are a different story as the gate will open and dump that turbo shreading stuff to the bottom turbo and result in power... ... ... Twins shouldn't be an issue.

I ran the 40/B2 combo for about 2 years with spray,I can't count how many times I've destroyed a 40, can't handle the 90+ boost, finally tack welded the keeper ring on the compressor side just to make a pass, still wants to come apart inside, not a unit I would recommend for large amounts of spray

Take from someone whos been there and done that

Thanks for the help. So if you were going to pick a set of turbo's to put the spray to what would you choose? That SP66 is looking pretty good  but what turbo should be put under it? I would run a big single but I would like twins for their cooling as I still tow.

Thanks

Brenden

Tim! I think you demonstrated for us last year at J-P drag strip how much a HX40 can take. Were you running a HX40 when you made 1020HP?

4 years ago when I first got into this stuff my truck was making 505 on the motor and 730 on the juice. The first HX-40 I had was incredible, I put I don't know how many bottles of juice through it, till it finally let go. My next 4, thats right FOUR, HX-40's all went the very FIRST time I hit them with the juice, and all of them went on the dyno, which is easier on your truck. I would not use an HX 40 at all with all the other turbo selections out there, but if you do definately don't squeeze it. You want a nice comparable single turbo that doesn't mind the juice, look at a PIUS USB or ASB. Mine has been good for 3 years now...

A 40m is a good charger if it's used in the parameter it was designed for. I've blown up a bunch of 40's, with and witout spray. This was years ago before we started building hybrid chargers.
