My truck does not shift from 1-2 under WOT, it will run to 3500 RPM and sit there until you lift the throttle. Nail it again immediately after it shifts to second and it will rev right back to the governor with no apparent forward gain like it is in nuetral. If you let it get into second for a couple seconds then roll the throttle to the floor it will hold second and shift on out fine the rest of the way through the gears. The last trans service was less than 10K miles ago with a band adjustment. The fluid smells warm, but is not cooked, color of the fluid is still good too. Truck has about 85K on it, some of them quite hard miles. I am guessing that the front band needs adjusted again? Any help is appreciated.

sometimes a minor problem can turn into a major problem by doing that while you are trying to figure out things.



Since this problem just started happening i am guessing your kickdown cable is not not of adjustment unless someone has been playing with it. Check it anyways.



On a 24 valve truck engine off and transmission in park, have someone in the cab step on the throttle , you will see a lever

moving on the drivers side of the transmission.



In the cab with the persons foot all the way to the floor you should be able to move that lever approx 3/16 - 1/8 of an inch towards the rear end.



The other possiblilty is the governor solenoid is faulty.

The best way to check for a faulty governor solenoid is with a pressure gauge.



On the passenger side of the transmission , there are 3 pressure ports approx. 1 1/2 " above the transmission pan rail, it is the one facing towards the rear end, if you look about 6 or 7 " above that one you will see another pressure port , that is your governor pressure port.



All transmission pressure ports are 1/8" pipe.
 
Thanks for the info Bill. I have a question though. I have a pressure guage, but what would I be looking for with it in the governor port? Are there any general pressures for a couple scenarios that you have? Thanks again.
 
Governor pressure is mph, on a stock valve body



example if you are going 20 mph your pressure should be 20psi



it should remain the same until the computer commands lockup,

then it will read higher than the actual mph you are driving



take the readings under moderate driving conditions

and also heavy throttle and call me with the readings
