2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission No 4WD!!

I went to use 4wd backing a skidsteer and trailer up a stone lane. Never engaged. The last time I used it, it took a long time to engage. The truck is the 95. Any thoughts?

Usually it's either one of two things:

1) Most likely their is something wrong with the CAD or vacuum lines. Probably got oil (or even water) in the lines and thus spoiled something. Not much to the system. There is a 4 port switch on top of the transfer case with a couple of lines going to the vacuum motor on the front axle (CAD). There are a few fixes to this, such as repairing what you have, replacing the CAD for a Posi-lok cable, or (if you have the bucks) replacing the front hubs with a manual conversion.

2) Not likely, something mechanical like a blown transfer case or front drive axle. Put the truck in 4x4 and shut it off. Try to spin the front drive shaft. It shouldn't spin with the truck in park.

Maybe check to see if your hvac vents are functioning properly (floor goes to floor only, vent goes to vent only, etc). Since they're vacuum driven that could tell you if it's a vacuum pump failure.

I was leaning towards the CAD as well. I haven't had time to investigate it yet. Was welding the bucket on my skidsteer all night. Perhaps tomorrow night. I am definitely going to check on the posiloc. Thanks. Will let you know what I find.

I have seen them jam up also inside so you may have to remove the CAD from the axle and see if it moves freely after you check for vacum leaks. Sometimes just removing them will allow them to operate correctly,sometimes they will not even after working them over..... Andy

Just installed my posi lok from wind rock last week. I'm soooooo glad to get rid of that vacuum set up. Fought that sucker all winter. No more!!!
