Hello, my new truck has every thing I wanted except anti-spin. All 4 of my previous trucks have had it. I farm and drive off road frequently and use 4X4 often. How important is this? Do I know drive a three wheel drive truck. Also, can the american axle be made a anti spin? Thanks for your help.

I figure the best way to find out how important it is for you is to just drive it normally and see what happens! If you want, you could add a detroit/Eaton/ARB/whatever locker later on...

No, you do not have a three wheel drive truck; you have a two wheel drive truck because the front diff. does not have anti-spin either.

Right now there is no aftermarket locker for the American Axle 11. 5. So far I think the anti-spin in are trucks are a POS! I'm not hearing anything good about them.

I sure like my AA better and I've had Dana's on trucks since 1972.

My first one lasted 11,000 miles. Was starting to doubt the better than dana stories. Mine just did not work! Had it replaced under warranty and a whole new truck was born. this AA is beefy and smooth.

Mine is not working anymore and my dads is not working right either. I talk to American Axel and they told me it either works or something is broke which in that case there would be broken pieces. I took my cover off and no broken pieces, so I called American Axel back and talked to another guy which told me that the multiplication ratio of the limited slips in are application was very low and that was probably the problem and that they have recieved MANY complaints about it but was not sure what was going to be done about it.

Hey waterrattler

What happened to your rear end and what were the symptoms. Mine is going in tommorow, I have a grinding feeling when I turn corners loaded. I had metel in fluid at 22k(we thought it was normal), replaced fluid with mopar, last week I replaced fluid to Amsoil at 40k and had more metal in the fluid and on the plug. And yesterday, found just as much metal on the plug after 800 miles.

Thanks

no syptoms, it sounds like you are losing you carrier bearing. of course i had metal on mine to but it was more like a gray mud. in the front axle i had more metal flakes like you are talking about.

There is a difference between the two styles of limited slips, the Dana is a clutch pad style ( friction modifier needed) and the AA is a worm gear style ( no modifier needed). Now my old Dana worked real good, but the AA I can bearly feel it going around corners. Also when doing a rear break adjust with the Dana, I rotated one tire and the other tire rotated the same direction like it should. But with the AA when rotating one tire the other one does nothing, works like a standard open diff. Now my VW bug had a Quife limited slip in the trans and it is also a worm gear style but when rotating one tire the other turns the same way like it should. So I am confused, I don't think the AA is messed uped but I can't explane why it acts like a open diff.

Mine seems to be one of the good ones too. (must be lucky, I guess  ) I've not heard any noise of felt any chatter from it. With a tire on ice or wet grass and one on pavement, it works as it should and the truck moves.

Of course I only have 15,000 mi on it so time will tell.
