I finally got around to fooling with the smoke adj. screw and the full power screw(had already turned the fuel delivery rate pin 180 deg. ) The change was impressive but from all the posts ive been looking at somewhere along the line I should have experienced some black smoke. I had light grey smoke before and still do both at start up and while accelerating . Good , Bad , turn some more ?

Hi Bob,

So, your AFC diaphram is at max (deepest) setting right??

Ok, you should rotate the starwheel clockwise about 1/2 turn. Mark the 12:00 position and turn mark to bottom, then drive it.

Repeat as necessary... ;)

By the time you've gone a full turn (360*) you should start seeing some earlier fueling and the smoke that goes with it.

Remember that the "full fuel screw" sends fuel across the power band, BUT a larger percentage of the fuel increase is sent to the low/mid range.

Once you get the result you want, re:adjust the smoke screw out/in to fine tune your exhaust smoke.

Not sure who told you to turn diapram 180 deg.

Take diaphram out and find deepest inset in concentric pin and install with deepest part towards front of truck. Thats your most fuel setting.

Don't pay attention to the pin prick on top of diaphram as it could be completly in the wrong place.

Hey bob, be sure that you inset the pin with a small pick when you reinstall all the parts back together, not a large detail, but important! Good luck. Tim

Mark:

When I moved the pin 180 deg. I was assuming the pin prick on the diaph. did indicate the opposite of the deepest inset in the pin and as I found it pointing directly to the front of the vehicle I turned it 180 deg. to point to the firewall. I did try to observe the deepest inset visually while I had it out but I question my ability to determine the absolute deepest just by sight it varies in such a slight degree. Will try again turning it in relation to a fixed object and if satisfactory will mark it correctly.

Thanks to you and all who responded.
