Since I bought this truck, the blinkers have never worked when I'm hooked up to my 5th wheel. Unhooked they work fine. I'm kinda lost and can't figure this out. I've hooked up other trucks to this trailer and all is good, it's just my truck. I checked my 7 pin plug on the truck with a test light and all connections are in the correct places and working.

Now, I found a blow fuse for the hazards under the hood in the distribution box. I've never used my hazards so I didn't realize it was blown. Replaced the fuse. The hazards now work but blink real fast and are dim, unhooked from the trailer.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks, Mike

Try replacing the flasher relay with an electronic unit they can handle the increased electrical load. That cured my flasher woes when I towed a trailer. It should be available at your local parts store.

Make sure you have a good ground on the trailer and the truck. A poor ground will cause the brake lights to be dim and the blinkers blink fast and dim also. Be sure the ground wire is connected to the frame, take a wire brush or a grinder and clean the spot where the ground wire connectes to the frame. Sounds like the flasher is bad if you have the hazard light flashing fast and dim with no trialer connected.

Stroker, do you have a part number for the electronic unit? Or will they know what I'm talking about?

HR, I checked the grounds I could find and they're all good. My brake lights are not dim, just the hazards. I'll pick up a new flasher, but would my blinkers work with trailer unhooked with a bad flasher?

I'll check the grounds again. Thanks for the ideas. Mike

There are two Flasher Units in the fuse box in the dash. It sounds like you need two new Flasher Units. The one you have for the turn signals sounds like it is standard unt and needs to be a heavy duty unit. When the Flasher Unit went bad on my Hazard (4-ways) on my 97 it did the same thing as yours are doing now and will blow the fuse.
