Power loss with hesitations in shifting

How much power is the stock cp-3 capable of?

I would like to at least get the advertised power out of my truck. I use the truck for work (not usually much weight), play (3500# boat), and the occasional plow job (doesn't snow a whole lot). It would be nice to be able to do a burnout once in awhile too. It just does not seem like the power the engine should be making is finding it's way to the tires. I would like to make some upgrades but I feel like I should have a plan first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

my 06 don't spin the tires (unless its wet, then it can't seem to not spin them), but when I hook my Titanium to it, it yanks it around with authority :-laf

With regards to burnouts the Torque Management software is the "culprit".

I had the same issue with my truck even after installing the TST module.

Smarty fixed it. SW1 and TST on 0/0 will burn the tires to the rim.

intake, exhaust, clutch and maybe a Smarty or TST

Long story short, it's an automatic. Why when I read articles, like in last quarters TDR, they say DC did a good job on the intake? Something different would help? So many posts say the Cat/muffler is not that restrictive and might sound better gutted/off but won't make much more power. Have I missed something or misread?

What are you getting for power?

I don't know, never been dynoed. But 325/610 seems like it would at least break the stock tires loose. It is a great truck and pulls everything I hook to it, maybe I'm expecting too much.

What the heck is a Torque Management? (I see it written as Mild, Moderate, and Wild in the Smarty threads) Does it just keep me from killing my Transmission? When they rate these trucks for HP and torque are they using a Transmission or do they just guess what it should do if the Trans would hold it? Do I need both the Smarty and a TST?

Is the transmission the thing that is really causing it to feel kind of sleepy from a dead stop? These Smarty and TST things do they do any damage, like to the injectors? I just see people have concerns about "pressure boxes". Is a Smarty and TST a "pressure box"? If I break something, that is OK I guess, but I don't want to break something because I did the wrong thing.

A good truck. I know problems can get magnified on forums, but this one seems like a good one.

Have you noticed that when you powerbrake your truck the engine will not rev over approx. 2000 rpm? The Torque Management code in the ECM makes that happen. Smarty reduces that effect in increasing SW levels.

Using the higher levels and/or stacking with the TST power module will destroy your trans as the makers of both of these products clearly warn.

If you want to do burnouts all you need is the Smarty. The only reason I have both is so that I can have reduced Torque Management from Smarty and the ability to ramp hp and torque up or down at will with the TST module. As a bonus Smarty can read and clear trouble codes, adjust speedo for tire size, etc. .

My suggestion. If you want to wake up the performance of your truck get the Smarty and upgrade your fuel pump. I like the FASS but you have other options there since some folks have issues mounting the FASS on a short bed. I got a long bed.

I'll leave it to someone else to suggest you add guages. :)

Rob,

We need to get together. I think I can answer most of your questions with just a quick ride in one of my trucks. Give me a call tomorrow and lets see if we can get together this weekend. I'll PM you my number in case you don't have it anymore.

Thanks CStockton. I did get gauges as the first things I did. The Smarty sounds awful nice.

Yep, I still have your contact info. Thank you very much for offer of help. I would love to take you up on it but I'm off like a prom dress to the beach in the morning. I hate to say I can't make it, but I'll need to catch up with you when we get back. Thanks again nauidvr1.
