Archived No brakes, no steering

"HELP"



I got in my truck today and did not have any power steering or power brakes. Both occurred at the very same. Everything was working fine the day before.

The fluid in both the master cylinder and the steering pump are fine. Any idea's ?

here's a guess... ..... sheared pump shaft. :{

I have had this happen twice, freaked out both times cause I wasn' tsure what happended the first time and the second time because I was already moving! Once I got the RPM's up to 2000 I got breaking and steering. Both of my occasions I puked steering fluid. I replaced it with synthetic valvoline and then eventually royal purple and haven't had a problem since, about 45,000 miles.

I'm having the exact same problem. So its not the pump, but the fluid?

update

Well guys, I really don't know what it is. The truck was not quite level so I wanted to move it to flat ground so as to make absolutely sure about the fluid level. While rolling down the driveway I was trying to turn as hard as I could and about 30 ft. later the steering just popped free. I now have my steering and brakes back. I suspect that something was clogged in the lines or and air pocket had occurred. Everything seems to be working fine. When I get some free time I'll flush the system and add new fluid.
