as a followup to the chain "Lift Pump Failure - AGAIN ?" a heads up for y'all.

after my injection pump went south and was repaired the next day I had no brakes and no power steering after noticing a large pool of vicious fluid in the drive way.



Had the truck towed to the dealer and after much head scratching here is the blurb from the repair order:



CUSTOMER STATES NO BRAKES NO STEERING

AIR POCKET IN STEERING GEAR

BLED STEERING AND HYDROBOOST. TEST DROVE VEHICLE NO FURTHER PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME.



the reasoning goes that due to the amount of pushing/steering/ braking during the injector repair process an air pocket formed which forced the fluid out of the reservoir inder pressure.



Two days of cautious driving has followed with no untoward events.

Now, someone is gonna' have to explanin what any of the above has to do with replacing an injection pump.

After shutting the truck off, try the brakes. Do you have boost for 2-3 brake applications with the engine not running? If not, your nitrogen accumulator has puked its charge into the hydroboost system - that's what spit the fluid out onto the ground, and that's why there was an "air pocket" in the system. If you've had an accumulator failure, bleeding the system and putting fluid in will restore function with the engine running, but not with the engine off. Better to find out you don't have any brakes with the engine off now than out on the road someday! :eek:



The reason I'm suggesting this is that your description sounds like the classic symptoms of an accumulator failure.

needless to say I just hauled butt for the driveway following Rusty's suggestion. Without the engine rattlin' I was able to stop the truck 7 times before it ran out of momentum to keep trying. go figger... . but I appreciate the concern, thanks...



Sticks, the service folks suggested the pumping of the brakes and steering without the engine running allowed an air pocket to form. It had nothing to do with the hi-$$$$ pump, just the moving the truck around with no power to the steering/brakes...
