Hey, all. Looking for some urgent help on any links to replacing the brake lines for the 2001 Cummins. My searches found nothing so far.

It hapened within a day or so. I found the cylinder bone dry, and a clear indication of a leaky line toward the rear driver's side area. :{I'm pretty positive it's not the shoe assembly cylinder, by the look sof it. Seems about half way between the fuel filler hose, and the rear wheel. I have yet to remove the tank and see.

My manual has no specs listed for the line size, and I was hoping to have some on hand prior to removal. The best that the parts store can do is wait until I bring the old one in to match em. This maybe a temporary solution until I get the better OEM or EGR kit.

The leak isn't major yet (relative concept:). By the new puddles I figure on topping it off about every day, with 80 miles driving distance.

Thank you.

I think there is only one brake line going to rear of your truck, to a T on top of the rear axle. Don't drop tank, locate that line and cut before tank. Splice line at your cut and snake the new line between tank and frame rail. then bend line to get to T on top of axle. Just my $. 02

Does your truck have rear disks or drums? If it has disks it is referred to as a 2001. 5 and will have multiple brake lines to the rear to accomodate 4 wheel antilock brakes. The changover to rear disks came in the middle of the model year.

I have an 01. 5 and have a slight leak on my rear brake lines. I checked with Dodge and they want over $450 per side to replace them. This is between the T and the right and left disk brake. I live in Canada and I would expect our price to be higher then US because of the difference in the dollar (about 20%). I checked with EGR Brake and their charge is $137 US for both sides. I believe the hose is a SS braided which is better then factory.

Rabsyeeha you mention that your leak is between the master and rear axle and EGR makes a replacement stainless steel line for $300. These lines tend to rust out and there are a few posts about that. I believe these lines are double flared from the factory where they join so be aware of that if you try making your own.

Hope this helps.

That is $139. 95 for both sides which includes the stainless steel hard line from the T on the differential and the 12 inch stainless steel braided line that attaches onto the brake. I just ordered a set this morning after I posted here. I talked to Glenn Maurer the owner himself. He asked how I heard of EGR. I mentioned I had just posted about his business on TDR.

Give him a call. I had very good first impression.

This post is a bit overdue, but I wanted to thank everyone for their input, and give a quick upadte. Dieselshuart and I started on the project. The tank definetely had to come out. I couldn't see the line, much less get to it. Once the old line was removed, I went with the faster and cheaper option, and got the new line at the local parts store. It bent easily by hand, and we got it to match the angles and bends. Once the new line was in place, and we went to bleed the brakes, the left rear master cylinder valve snapped, and I had to install a new one. So about 12 hrs later, I had the thing put together, and mostly bled.

The curious part, is that the leaks continued. I tightened some connections a bit, and that didn't do much. Long story short, we later figured out that the new lined leaked at the coupling connection points. After replacing 2 sections of the line, we found the same leak, and replaced the third. My friend's shop uses the same supplier as the local parts store. The lines were brand new, all angles straight and connections right. I have yet to find out from the suplier why so many new lines leaked from a place we had nothing to do with, or at all. So 6 more hours, tank back in place, more bleeding (brakes too), and she stops like a barrel racer Quarter horse.
