I have a 2002 24v that I recently converted to the p pump. I was at a red light and the truck died!! The odometer shows No BUS signal. I can turn the engine over but it does not start. I have no guages. I hot wired the FASS and it still will not start. Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Brian,

The instrument cluster has lost communication with the CCD (Chrysler Collision Detection) bus. This is the communication network over which all of the vehicle modules communicate with each other. The fact that the engine won't start suggests something may have come disconnected or shorted causing the CCD to become inactive. If the instrument cluster is the only thing which failed, I don't think that would affect the engine from starting and running.

By chance have you tried hooking up a code scanner to try and pull up some trouble codes?

To rule out a problem with the instrument cluster, you can initiate an actuator test as follows:

(1) Begin the test with the ignition switch in the Off position.
(2) Depress the odometer/trip odometer switch button.
(3) While still holding the odometer/trip odometer switch button depressed, turn the ignition switch to the On position, but do not start the engine.
(4) Keep the odometer/trip odometer switch button depressed for about ten seconds, until CHEC appears in the odometer display, then release the odometer/trip odometer switch button.

A series of three-digit numeric failure messages may appear in the odometer display, depending upon the failure mode. If a failure message appears, post it here and I'll give you the description and proper correction. If no failure message appears, the actuator test will proceed with a series of, ododmeter display, gauge, and bulb tests then exit.

Good luck,

John L.

thank you for your reply. I love tdr. its my only hope.

let my give more details. the truck has

FASS, phat shaft64, 215hp p pump, no fuel plate, edge attitude, SBDD clutch

I was using the edge as a code reader, now thats not showing any life from the ecm

I will check the timing again soon as it gets light. just going through issue 61about timing the p pump. its set at22 deg btdc. it ran great before the pump gear slipm baffled it doesnt run its got to be timing. with my set up there should

need no electronics. everything is still conneicted 02apps. the only thing gone is the lift

pump and vp

thanks again

I'll second the fuel shut off solenoid.

Is the rod moving up when you turn the Key to "start" position. Usually if does not go up its the fuel shut off solenoid relay.

Also you can put key in "run" postion then lift rod up. Rod should stay up.

The symptoms point to the solenoid itself but you could have bad connection, shorted wires or lost the groumd.

Do you have the solenoid on a fuse?

I just did the CHEC. Here are the codes - 920, 921 and 999.

Thanks for your help!! Very much appreciated!!

I need to pick up a 3500 LB Lincoln Welder ASAP!!

Brian,

Those instrument cluster error codes confirm that the communications network to the PCM and ECM is dead.

I think it's time to start with the basics and verify the ECM and PCM are receiving power.

Is it safe to assume you have a copy of the Factory Service Manual to troubleshoot?

Regards,

John L.

Thank You John,

I do need to get a factory service manual for this. I have the haynes. The truck runs good. with the pump hot wired to a switch. haven't had time to deal with this ECM, PCM problem. It's catching up with me. Ran out of fuel yesterday in my driveway (lucky, lucky) due to the lack of a fuel gauge and poor milage calulations in my head. I received the latest copy of TDR with your write up of the "no power to transfer pump when key is on". On the page before that there an editors note mentioning you. Very nice. Good work and thank you for your help. I'm going to look for my lack of power to my ECM, PCM today. I will keep you posted and thanks again
