I have a 2000 with 64k miles. The odometer started flashing "NO BUS".

The truck runs fine. The gauges don't work however. radio fine etc...

There were some old threads on this subject that make reference to corrosion

& ignition switch. Was this issue ever resolved. I live in PHX Arizona, so corrosion ??????? Where would I look for it. ? HELP... ... the Service writer

at Tempe Dodge quoted $900. 00 over the phone, plus labor for a new gauge cluster. P. S the check engine light, the ABS light & the brake light remain

illuminated. Would a code reader help?

To get you started...

You dont need a code reader to get the codes. Turn your ignition beginning in the OFF position like this (BUT NOT TO THE START POSITION)... OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF and then to ON and leave in this position. Watch the odometer it will give you the codes in the odometer window.

Another thing that may help to test your cluster- Starting with the ignition in the OFF position, press your odometer button in and HOLD. Turn your ignition to the ON position and wait a few seconds, then release the odo button. Your odo window should read TEST and your cluster will run a self diagonstic... lights will light and gauges should sweep. (Thanks HoleShot) This should tell you if the cluster is OK. From there your on your own.

I have the same problem and I also show 1693, 1694, and 1687 codes. My cluster tests OK. Anybody got any ideas what caused the cluster failure/ NOBUS in the odo window? Everything is working fine... for now. I would like to track down this problem and fix it.

Thanks, Jim

Taking the cluster out and cleaning all the contacts on the back would be a good cheap start. Use radio shack's tv tuner cleaner, works prety durn good. . Also check/clean all your connectors at the PCM/ECM, and associated grounds. I havent heard of the ignition problem, its possible. I dont think your cluster is bad though.

jtisdale: there is a listing of codes in a sticky on the 2nd gen forum listing...

good luck

no buss

watsunj,

My '01 did the same thing. It was the air bag module (after checking everything else several times). However, there are posts on this TDR that indicate that if the front brake pads are replaced and the fluid is pushed into the anti lock system while replacing the pads it will display the same 'no buss' symptoms. Mine was fixed under warranty by the dealer.

The ccd bus supplies information to the gauge panel. "No Bus" means the gauge panel is not getting this info. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere, possibly at the ccd bus (connector 7) behind steering column. Good luck.
