I'm looking for a nice place to spend a couple weeks this summer. I would like to be near the coast between Napa and Fort Bragg. Any suggestions of a place with full hookups that my 38foot toy hauler will fit into.

Bodega Bay has a campground that might accommodate you. Not sure about hook ups though. You need to call them and reserve a spot since they stay busy during the summer.

Right in the water or with spitting distance. Keep in mind that summer in the ocean up here means Cold fog.

Call these folks just north of Manchester, CA on highway one to see if they can accomodate your 38'er.
I don't see why they couldnt, but I would check just to be sure.

Manchester Beach KOA - Contact Us

Manchester is located apporx. 30 minutes north of Gualala and approx. 70 minutes south of Fort Bragg.
It is a NICE campground run by decent people located on the cape that is the point of the continental US that is closest to Hawaii. There are full service groceries and hardware (though no gas or diesel!!) 5 minutes away right in Manchester.

Gualala and Point Arena to the south and Mendocino and Fort Bragg to the north offer all sorts of places to visit and sightsee, including TWO lighthouses, OLD buildings, botanical garden, and of course ALL sorts of beaches to visit in between.
A few great places to eat... Try the Elk Grocery for excellent sandwiches, or Queenies Roadhouse Diner for breakfast or lunch, both only 20 minutes north in Elk , or the Steakhouse or Bistro in Fort Bragg for dinner. Also, Uneeda Eats, for local takeout or dine in in Point arena. GREAT old movie theatre in Point Arena, worth it just to see the inside plus popcorn with REAL butter.

Have fun maneuvering that 38 foot rig on Highway 1. :D Ask Seafish the best route, I know one road you won't enjoy traveling on.

Ditto. We traveled that route from San Francisco to Crescent City in Sept '09. We had high pressure the whole time and it was a breathtaking drive. So beautiful that it took two extra days because we kept stopping. A 38' trailer would be a chore. I must have shifted hundreds of times. Wishing I had an auto for that trip. :)

Albion, CA. We stayed there in 2002 i think and it was awesome.

Enjoy!

How did you get down to the campground with a 38' trailer???

It IS beautiful and open once you are all the way down there, but the turn off the highway is gruesome enough, (DON"T try it if you are heading northbound), and then there is that tight full U turn halfway down... You would DEFNITELY have to have a spotter stopping traffic from going up while you were driving down.

Not saying it can't be done, but how long were you when you drove down??

Not a lot of choices. We've been going to Red Rock Campground in Island Park, Idaho for the last 6 years and wanted to try something else. Any suggestions for Grand Junction Co. ?

Ca

Camping in N CA with hook ups look at Emerald Forest RV in Trinidad CA but a better choice would be in my opinion Patrick's Point Trinidad Ca

Patrick's Point SP I know you said 38 ft trailer and the site will say 32 ft but if you give me a couple of weeks I can tell you what site to reserve and you will fit. We have been to this Park Many times and it's one of the cleanest and nicest state parks that Calif has. Also many Private RV parks along 101 and the coast. Also Jedediah Smith State park near Crescent City VERY NICE.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods SP Same thing I can tell you what site to get for your rig both of these have dump sites but no hook ups. There is another Private RV park with hookup's right outside the gate at Jedediah Smith state park that can take bigger rigs than yours we just like to stay in the parks when we go. PLEASE TAKE OUR ADVICE when your up there. There is a little town named Myers Flats that is the start of the AVE. OF THE GIANTS it is a small road the runs parallel to the main 101 hwy. for about 10 miles if you dont take this little diversion (trailer will fit) you will be missing one of the most scenic drives in CA

Not far from Grand Junction and in our opinion WELL WORTH the drive is Black Canyon of the Gunnison Nat. Park. We like to go to the more obscure parks and President Clinton made this a Nat Park in 1999 it is a very nice place. I can tell you the site that you will fit into because we had to look ourselves to find one. We make notes where ever we go for info.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (U. S. National Park Service) If your going to CO your going to take I-15 N to I-70 E to Grand Junction? might try going I-40 E to Williams AZ to Grand Canyon (have pics and info)then hwy 160 to Mancos CO for Mesa Verde Nat Park (have pics on that on also) to Durango and take the Train ride to Silverton (have more pics) up the MILLION DOLLAR HWY(550) and it lives up to its name. to Black Canyon and you can connect back to I-70 just N of there. If we can help you in anyway let us know we have had WONDERFUL times is CO. Rocky Mountain Nat. Park is not to be missed either. The Pics are of the Black Canyon That spot will hold your rig mine is 32 ft hitch to bumper.

BigNasty, Thanks for suggesting a truely Northern California area for camping. If you are planning a trip to Trinidad let me know as I live here. I'll swing by to say hi.

Pomo RV Park and Campground in Ft Bragg has decent spaces and accomodations. Other private parks in the area may serve also. There are several State Parks in the area but most don't have full hook-ups and may have problems w/ a 38" RV. Making Pomo your HQ allows day trips up and down the coast on HWY 1 for great scenery and beach visits.

RV not a trailer

We were driving a 35' RV at the time, I bet a trailer behind a PU would be easier. There was a big tour bus RV next to us, so its doable.

BIGNASTY, Thanks for the reply. I'm in no rush as of yet so if you know of some specific sites, we have time. I'm thinking I should zero in on something soon after the first of the year.

Ill get them pretty soon what one do you want Patricks Point of Jedediah Smith or both. I just send both and let you decide I dont think you will be disappointed in either one. Or any for that matter N Ca is nothing like S Ca. People included it's a different place. It is a long drive I think it was 745miles but when you get past Santa Rosa it becomes 1 lane or 2 or 3 back to 1 then 3 then Thu the middle of small towns it just took awhile.

101 thought Santa Rosa is now 3 lanes to Windsor then 2 Lanes into hopland, one lane through hopland then goes back and forth between 1 and 2 lanes from there, but traffic usually flows pretty well that for north

We one time going up we got caught in I think it was Willits. A one light town but very nice to raise a family if you wanted, pretty little town. We tried to go thru when the High School let out. We sat in traffic for at least 45 min just to get out of town. The wife got out of the truck went into a fast food store picked us up something to eat walked back to the truck and got in. I hadnt moved 10 car lenths ate lunch and drove out of the town :-laf its just part of it. I think its call vacation anyway

Be glad you missed Willits the day the Propane truck overturned at Brown's Corner just coming into town from South. It took 8 hours to get through town. They shut down highway.

Patricks point

The campsites that will fit your rig are For sure 115 and 116 in The Agate campground they say on the Reserve America site that they are 31ft but they are much longer than that. Easy to back into also. There are some others in the same Agate loop that are on a bluff above Agate Beach that are the same size they are sites 100/101/102/103 these are nice sites but the only problem is when you look at the campground map on the Reserve America site they show another loop in front of those sites with a restroom. That is a day use parking lot. There is a campground road between the sites and the parking lot but it's not much of a road. The parking lot would be empty at 5 pm as the park kicks out the day use people at that time. Just to remind you these are not hook up sites but the park has a dump site and water. I'm trying to get the info for the other park but i'm away from home and it makes it a little harder to obtain the info

Russian River Campground No. California

I'd recommend Casini Ranch Campground Duncan Mills CA. Duncan Mills is about 45 minutes from the Napa Valley towards the coast. Duncan Mills is about 5 miles inland on the Russian River from Jenner where the river meets the ocean. I have stayed there several times and have enjoyed it. Pretty location. Centrally located between the two locations you mentioned. Welcome to Casini Ranch Family Campground
