I see for sale locally a 2005 3500 Dodge diesel. It doesn't run. He says he will sell reasonably due to he "blew" the engine and his mechanic said it has lost compression. Is this a blow head usually or what? Any ideas? I think about getting a project as I'm getting laid off and sounds like fun. Thanks, Herb

To buy a truck like that you should assume it will require a complete engine replacement and make an offer based on that. If you buy it at a very attractive price and discover you can save the block, crankshaft, rods, cylinder head, and turbo and can do all the work yourself you may have bought a bargain. The ISB5. 9 can be sleeved and new pistons and rings installed. I'm sure it is pricey to do.

If it has no compression on 1 or more cylinders, how many is important, likely an injector went bad and melted a piston. If you knew compression on all the cylinders and how many you get a better idea what it would take to fix.
