I need help from the Gurus... . The cruise control has quit. The vacuum is good, and the servo checks good as explained by the shop manual. Where to next???

Symptoms are as follows: Once up to speed, press the On/Off button and the indicator light comes on, however the set/coast switch does not activate. 50 seconds after the OD light comes on, the light goes out by itself.

Using the trouble code system with the ign switch ( On-Off-On-Off-On) shows a code of 77. I have no defination of trouble codes above the 60's range.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Check for broken wires

Look just under the steering column you will find the four very small wires coming from the clock spring that feeds your cruise buttons and horn in the steering wheel.

Everytime we tilt our sterring wheels this wire pack has to flex. I have had to fix broken wires twice here on mine.

No guru here but, have you checked your brake light swicth? If it is bad or out of adjustment, it will disengage cruise. Had to change that on my 95.

Thanks for the inputs guys... ... ... . still inop... ... ...

Pumperdude..... the wires are good,

JJW-ND..... the brake switch is OK,

illflem... Even the local dealer does not know the meaning of code 77.

Thanks again for the time and thoughts.....

You might try a new cruise switch, they are only about $35.

I chased one, once upon a time that tested ok with a DVM, replaced it an everything was fine.

Good luck

Andy
