I have a '97 2500 4 X 4 CTD with the cruise control not working. The truck has a Prime-Lok remote fuel filter relocation kit that has a leaking water in fuel sensor which leaked fuel on the left side inner wheel well where some cruise control conponents are located. The batteries are clean and corrosion-free. When the cruise control is turned on the indicator light on the steering wheel works, but that is all. Any help to find out what's wrong would be appreciated

Has the driver side battery ever leaked? It is common for acid to eat a hole into the cruise servo or the vacuum line going to it. The servo sits under that battery.

First, thanks for replying. Second, no. I have never had any problems with the batteries leaking or anything, excepting dying about 2 yrs. ago. When I changed them I cleaned the terminals and posts and before connecting them, I applied a small bead of RTV silicone around the posts to prevent leakage there, then applied those felt anti-corrosion washers. Just make sure not to get any silicone on the posts. I am wondering if the leaking diesel fuel could have caused a problem with the servo or a vacuum line.

The way you explain the problem it sounds like a computer glitch coming from the PCM.

Not sure if the dealer can reflash it or if you would need a new one.

Worth a call to the dealer.

If the rubber isn't compatable with diesel, it is possible. If that were the case, the rubber would probably be soft and/swelled up from it. Any corrosion in the connector to the servo? Have also heard of a wire or 2 breaking in the steering column from having a tilting steering wheel.

My battery showed no sign of leakage/corrosion but the vacum line was damaged 3" from the servo. I cut off the damaged end and shoved it back into the rubber nipple on the servo and it works great. A friend had a hole eaten in the servo housing and patched it with epoxy and it works good too.
