So i tried my cruise today and the light wont come on... what controlls it ? i dont have anything responding? no blown fuses and i dont know how to test the switch

Ive had quite a project trying to get my cruise fixed, first i tried a clockspring -- no dice, then switches on the steering wheel -- still no good, finally i started tracing wires, and found the problem to be a proken wire between the ECM and the wires on the steering column, specifically from the fuse block to the steering column, this may be your problem.

For some good info on how to fix your cruise and such, see my thread from before:

Feel free to PM me or post any questions here you may have and ill help to the best of my ability.

That's a good post Jake... . I wish I had your patience. I'm going to print the whole thing and give it to the tech that "fixed" (not) my cruise last week.

Time!

Yea, if you notice, that whole post took place over a period of better than a month, now im not saying that i didnt have the time to work on it like some of you guys might be lacking. What i am saying is that the whole ordeal was ****** me off so bad that i could hardly stand it, so i could only manage to look at the thing for an hour or so at a time before i had to put the tools down and go cool off.

As a sidenote, if you do find it to be the clockspring or switches in the wheel, ive got both of those in perfect condition (used of course) that i may be willing to part with. Just give me a PM or get ahold of me somehow.

/Ramble off

There's a couple current threads on this issue but I just came from the dealership again and my cruise is still not working. I printed out the whole thread from Jake's link and took it to the technician. The report back to me is the PCM is bad and needs to be replaced. This doesn't make sense to me since everything else works fine. What do you guys think? Bad PCM or lazy tech?

If it is possible the PCM is bad, is this something I can replace? Is it available in the aftermarket or is it only available from a dealership?

Before you pay to have your PCM replaced, find a buddy who has a truck exactly like yours, put his PCM in your truck and see if you have cruise. If you do, then it's likely it is your PCM.

I did this with my APPS problem and still had the same problem so I knew my PCM was good.

Good luck... . I have been searching for a solution to my problem for 2 months now:mad:

Thanks Buff. Unfortunately I don't have a buddy like that to trade with. I plan to start with the clockspring and brake light switch. The fact that the light comes on when I tilt the steering up and down indicates to me that the PCM and even the wiring may still be okay. The light stays on until I touch either the brake pedal or start turning the wheel. Last night it was the brake pedal. Two nights ago it was the steering wheel. They seem like cheap easy fixes... . I say easy; is there anything tricky I should edumacate myself on prior to starting this?

I am the last one to ask about easy fixes for wiring problems, I have been chasing a problem with my AC Clutch setting a code for 2 months now!! Getting absolutely no where even with all of the help I have received from Marco and my old buddy Blair.

It's about to drive me to start drinkin again!!
