Fireman,

There was a post about that within the past month or so. Sorry but I don't remember who started it, or if that was the main problem. But I believe that you can check the electrical plugs on the transmission and the TPS. Clean and grease as required.

Most of the threads I've seen regarding first gen cruise control problems focused on the control module between the battery and the fender. I think there was something about battery acid causing deterioration, or something along those lines. Anyway, that's where I would start. Hope this helps.

I had to replace the clockspring in mine also. The dealer where I live charged me $147 for it so I made sure it was the culprit before buying it. If you have a multimeter you can run continuity tests through it by removing the connectors for the cruise switches and the harness on the back of the clockspring.

I could be wrong but mine wasn't working and I was having problems with my brake lights. As soon as that got squared away the cruise started working again.

I couldn't get the above link to work to review other info.

I finaly got tired of the shuddering stops and unplugged my ABS behind the glove box. Seems my cruise is not working so I suppose it all ties in????

Unplugging the ABs will not drop cruise. The ABS is a stand alone system. It doesn't talk to anything but the lights on the dash board message center.

Do you hear a click when you hit your crusie switches? If the switch feels kind of mushy. I would check them. You have to pierce the wire to get a reading. Set and resume are just a moment switch. So you need a sensitive meter.

A low vacuum reading will drop the cruise. There is a switch mounted on the drivers side fender behind the hood hinge. Check the vac line to it and see if it is bad. If your ABS is unplugged there will not be a warning light come to tell you of low vacuum.

When I got my truck. Both the switches and vac switch on the drivers fender were bad.
