Fleetguard has come out with a new breather setup to eliminate the "bottle". Drains oil back to the crankcase.

Called "Enviro Guard". Looks like it should work. Supposed to last the life of the engine.

Anyone trying it?:)

Here is my 'no-drip' breather...rags? Socks? don't work.

Well, I really have to say, I do not like the new format of the site... just lost the whole post due to the use of 'backspace' when trying to correct a link jeez...

Anyway, like I wrote before, the sock did not work and there was a joke about the ex and the rag, but here goes (again)

Here is what I cooked up in 3. 5 hours. (I am sure glad at least time is not metric here... ) This was no 'art-project' just a quick and dirty to see if it works. I will make up something out of stainless and TIG it together, if it works... so far after 50 miles, no leaks, no drips.

The whole write-up, including a bit of instruction for metal work is here, I am still writing it, and tried to find a few good links here to use in the write-up but the search in the 'new' format is really crap...

So why don't you just extend the hose?

Times two... .

While I am definitely not a scientist, having the tank above like that might not be the best choice. As that metal tank heats up and cools down, any condensation(aka water) that forms in the tank would run right back in the engine... . just a thought.

Hmn, good point. The tank has a bit of a backward tilt, so I can take off the breather and monitor what is going on. As for the longer hose, just redirecting the mess somewhere else was not really what I was looking for. The best solution would be to extend the hose, and put a scavenge on the exhaust... maybe not for emissions, but at least it would not end up making a mess on the under side of the truck.

My breather hose exits about mid-transmission and points down toward the ground. The way I routed it, I always maintain a downward slope so there is no chance of clogging (or freezing as some have reported). I have never seen a drip in the driveway (although it must land someplace), but I do get a noticeable 'smoke' coming out after a fresh oil change. Even have had people comment on it. I can't believe that Dodge intended this to go into our ventilation system.

Somehow, I never thought about the condensate... well, back to the drawing board, or an extended hose... BTW; what oil are you using. I use Liquid Moly (special for Diesel-still has zink). The last oil change I was forced to use Castrol. Man, the truck smelled like a refinery for the first 1000 km or so... now I have Liquid Moly in stock, so that will not happen again. (I normally use one brand of oil in my motors, and don't hop around).

Kris,

Your setup will be just fine. The rest of us are just too cheap. :-laf The condensate will never be a problem in the engine compartment. The icing that I remember was from the guys who live in the real cold states and ran their hose extension all the way to the rear bumper. I've always used Delo, and yeah, the first thousand miles are smelly if I roll down the windows. At least it's not coming in my vents now.

I would like a different design as well from what i have, which is a pvc tube run up over and down by trans. I was unable to locate 3/4 inch pcv hose and had to use heater hose temporarily to connect from breather to pvc pipe, about 4 inch piece. But i too get some smoke from the tube after an oil change. , and i think rotella smelled the worst when new. I like the tank idea, but im not a welder, and what type hose is that attatched to the tank?

Put one of these on my truck a few years ago--Clean breather and drain at oil changes- mounted it up under drivers wheel well--Was a stock item Summit racing

I just cut and re-used the factory hose...

Oh dear...suddenly smoking...from breather

Well 'Project No-Drip' has hit a snag. Today while sitting at a light, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood... turns out that it was coming out of the breather, not just a little, A LOT of vapour. I took the cap off the valve cover, and there seems to be positive pressure in the crankcase, as the cap will 'float' in the cover, and not from vibration either... now I am worried. Checked the oil, and I am about a quart down in 3. 000 miles... truck has around 150. 000 miles... I think I need to start a new thread.

Oh, in the meantime? I am going to put on a longer hose. :-laf Perhaps my 'solution' has too much flow resistance... Jonathan

That's terrible, mine smokes some, but the cap does not float

Watch that if it is that much you should be good, well that much or less, mine is less than that, i just added a stainless tank to mine mounted under front bumper, i will see how that does.

Yeah, I have about that much... maybe a bit more. I removed my 'tank' and ran a hose under the truck, now there is a 'pulse' at the filler cap on the valve cover, and the cap does not 'float' around. I am probably going to remove the pot-scrubbers from the tank, and put a different cap on it with a provision for a hose that I will vent somewhere under the truck... been a while since I was MoParman1973's site, I will have to see what is new... Jonathan--Yes that is an onyx with labradorite inset-- was not supposed to tag along with the breather--I am a silversmith and do custom stones. Sorry for the error--the breather works great and is easy to service when needed.
