Well, was just driving home this last hour in the 95. Went down a hill gave it some throttle going up the next hill and no go. Meaning the engine is running fine but there is absolutely no drive to the tires. No noises just stopped going. I had been getting some noise when you let out the clutch. A rubbing/metal grinding noise only when letting out the clutch on up shifts and down shifts. Noticeable in the lower gears more so than the higher ones. Made sure the transfer case wasn't for some reason in neutral. Tried all gears. Clutch pressure is the same. Can shift the transmission without the clutch and the engine running just like the engine wasn't running. I am thinking the clutch is still ok. I would also think anything in the transmission would have made some noise as well as any potential problem in the transfer case. But, I don't know. Any thoughts would be great. I will start to rip it apart tomorrow.

Thanks

Thomas

Most likley the center has broken out of the clutch",been there done that". Time for a new clutch /piliot bearing a flywheel resurfacing. The other possibility is A broken input shaft. Sorry to be the barer of bad news. Good luck

Well, that is what I was expecting anyway. Which might not turn out to bad. I wanted to install a DD and bigger input shaft, but couldn't justify the cost involved in replacing a "perfectly good clutch". Thanks for the input I will let you know what I find.

thanks

Thomas

Well here is the problem as predicted earlier. I am going to try and attach two photos. How long do Con OFE's last? This one is just about two years with a decent amount of towing. No sleds or drags. The mileage is around 50k.

I think I will be trying a DD this time around.

Thanks

Thomas

The pressure plate and flywheel are in good shape. I will call Peter and see what he thinks. No matter though. I will say that I am getting better at this whole clutch thing. It took a little less than two hours to drop everything.

Be sure to check the front bearing on the input shaft and pilot bearing ,both will cause this failure. I had a con o to do the same thing with very few miles that Peter at southbend replaced, also replaced the front bearing which appeared fine. But the con o is a good clutch. The replacement is somewhat jerky on inital engagement espically in first or reverse. Call Peter he will shoot you straight. Tim

Talked to Peter on Monday. And of course he comes through again with awesome customer service even after the clutch was over a year past its warranty. On the way is 3600lb DD!! Now to get the head work finished.

Thomas

Be sure to check end play on the input shaft. That is a lot of longitudinal force on the shaft before failure.

It's great to see good customer support!! Cudos to South Bend.
