Coming home tonight towing the fiver and quite warm out. Had to stop for construction and engine temp started to climb and A/C not cooling. I noticed the fan was not cutting in as it usually did. I got moving and by keeping the right foot out of it I got home without incident. I am suspecting the fan hub but would like some other opinions before I start ordering parts. I am not real knowledgeable on the fan circuits but I don't think it would be a sending unit as the A/C didn't kick it in neither. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the infamous fan clutch strikes again! You under warranty? If not, about $310 at your friendly ***aler.

I just ordered one from newmoparparts.com for $276. The price was a bit cheaper but DC 'updated' the part so the price went up.

I didn't have any overheating issues but my AC wasn't working so well.

You can test the fan clutch by spinning it by hand when it is cold(spin it a few times to get the fluid distributed). It shouldn't spin more than 5 times. I had to spin mine pretty hard to get it to go more than 5 times. The new one won't spin more than about an 1/8 turn.

Good Luck

Jeff

hey guys you are talking about the A/C also if I replace my fan with an electric unit does that mean my A/C will cut out? I'm not seeing how the 2 are related.

Had my fan clutch replaced at around 63K miles. My DTT transmission builder says its better to go with the stock Mopar part number on the fan clutch. Seems he's seen too many failures of the aftermarket parts, FWIW.
