After taking my 01', 2500 4x4 to the dealer for all 4 ball joints and a track bar, the warranty company that we bought the extended warranty from came and looked at it, saw my company name on the truck and denied the warranty. I explained in the nicest terms I could, that that was BS, considering the finance guy that sold me the warranty and truck titled in in the companies name. Can anyone give me any advice on this, I told them I would just come pick up a check for the warranty amount and then I would just warranty everything myself from here. I doubt that will fly though.

Thanks in advance

Cole

One could tell them, that you have it under a company name for tax purposes...

If you do use it for company use (plumber, etc. ) then you might not qualify for the service contract to begin with, if so, they should refund you the contract premium in full.

I work for an insurance company as a claims adjuster for automotive service contracts, so I may be some assistance on this.

First off, the I just have my name on it for tax purposes will not cut it. If that were the case everyone would do it for a reduced tax bill. Then there would also be the little issue of lying on your tax return (can you say felony).

The warranty issue is very standard in the business community, Trucks that are used for commercial duty, are not covered under warranty. A new truck will have a warranty, but it terms are different then the warranty of a privately owned vehicle. A I would say there should be a difference. The trucks used in business are used everyday, all day, and they see much different conditions then a private vehicle. When in business you can not get the best of both worlds, I guess it would be nice, but it isn't going to happen. Once you put the name on the truck and start using it everyday for work, you fall into a different category, that being a commercial vehicle. As a business truck, you a initialed to deduct your expenses, and part of those expenses are maintenance. So do the required service and then take them off at the end of the year. When you figure in what your overhead is, these type cost are what get covered. Just another thing to think about before going into business, you are your own warranty station. I think I have herd that before?

If they took your money knowing it was registered to a business, they either owe you a warranty or your money back. I don't think they can sell you a warranty, and then disclose in the warranty paperwork that it's void if you are commerical. That would be fraud.

My wife was sold an extended warranty on our dually when she bought it from the dealership. When I filed a claim it was denied because my truck was modified from it's original configuration, ie it had trailer brakes, a goose neck hitch, and oversized tires. All this was on the truck when I bought it. After many calls to the warranty company, I finally spoke to an adjuster who passed on my problem to the cfo. I finally got my money back for the bogus warranty that should have not been sold in the first place. Many dealerships sell these policies just for the extra money, and without thinking about the consumer. I would fight it on the phone, but you have to be nice. I had to bite my lip when I was told I should have read the contract better by the dealership. I didn't even get a copy until a month after I got the truck. Sorry for your troubles, but I have been there.

Update (sort of )

Well, after talking to the dealer, the GM is going to call the warranty company and see what he can do. I don't blame the warranty company, the contract says it in black and white. It is the snake in the grass finance guy that wouldn't let me out the door without the warranty, I finally gave and even told him that I was so busy with the construction business that I didn't really have time to work on my vehicles. What really pisses me off is that we were there for 4 hours buying this truck, the whole time talking to the salesman about why I was trading in my chevy 454 for the diesel for towing my company trailers etc. . Hell, we even told that finance guy the same thing, just to make conversation. I honestly would rather just do the work myself, but since I had this apparently worthless warranty, I figured I should use it. I know I should have read the contract, but the finance guy shouldn't sell things that are worthless, Hell, we titled the truck in the company name, but financed it personally due to the fact, that it takes an act of god for anyone to loan your business money without putting you on the hook also. Anyway thanks for all the help, I will definately let you know the outcome. Plus its a Ford dealer, I mights nick a few P-Strokes with my hitch on the way out ;)

You will find the dealer tries to blame the warranty company and the warranty company sends you right back to the dealer. It's a vicious cycle that doesn't end. I ultimately had to go after the warranty company because they are the ones who pocketed my $1700. This experience definitely turned me off to extended warranties through outside companies. I don't think I will buy one again. They voided mine for trailer brakes. What else would one use a 3500 for other than towing.
