Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No first gear

I have a 2011 auto. I had the transmission serviced to include changing the filter and adjusting the bands at the Goodyear service in Destin, Fl. I had fuel pressure issues when I got the truck back(resolved with a pressure test kit and new guage, Thanks J. Landry) and drove it sparingly until I resolved the fuel pressure issue. I have less than 150 miles on the transmission service. Yesterday I drove the truck about 70 miles and made a stop. The transmission was fine at that point. When I started it back up first gear was slipping badly. On a downhill, I was able to get it to shift into second and the transmission pulled normally, also in all the upper gears. At each downshift first again slipped. the truck would reach about 20 MPH at 2000 RPM but no more. I had to have the truck towed. I had it towed to the same shop that did the original service. Could this be a loose electrical connection, I belive the trans is a 47RE. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to diagnose the problem accurately without you having the truck on hand to check out a few things, but off the top of my head it could be either of the following:

1. The overrunning clutch has failed. It's only used in 1st gear when the shift lever is in D, but it's also used in manual 1st and 2nd. If you found the truck slipped badly in manual 1st AND 2nd, then that would tend to confirm a failed overrunning clutch. If it did not slip in manual 2nd, then that would tend to rule out the overrunning clutch being the problem.

2. It could be the governor pressure solenoid and/or the governor pressure sensor. Many times if one of these items is at fault a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) will be set in the PDC but will not illuminate the check engine light. These parts are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.

When I shifted from D to manual 2nd I could tell no difference between that and the slipping first. I should have checked for trouble codes but I did not. I have sent the truck to a transmission shop for repairs since anything inside a transmission is above my knowledge or experience level. Thanks for the reply, I'll post the results from the transmission shop when I get them. I just can't wait... .
