Cranked up this morning and I had NO fuel pressure either before or after the filter. Shut off and bumped the starter and did not hear the pump running. Ordered Carter P4601HP from Summit. Is there a fuse for the lift pump? No manual. Truck has 54k on it.

I do not know if there is a fuse dedicated just to the stock lift pump, but if you are seeing 0 PSI, then I'd say it's a 99% likelyhood you have a dead lift pump. By the way, the pump can still run and be dead at the same time. Mine did just that when it died last month. Something inside the pump gives out, and so you can hear it running, but it isn't pumping any fuel.

As Tom stated, there's no fuse or relay in the PDC, that's dedicated to the transfer pump. There's one for the VP44 ( relay), but that won't help you much. Just for the heck of it, check for voltage at the pump right after someone bumps the starter. You should get a reading on the multimeter for about 20-25 seconds.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Big Saint, I will check for voltage at the lift pump. I went by the 'so called dealer' this morning and was told would have to leave the truck for a few days until they could get to it to see of it was the lift pump. I told them it was not even coming on and they said well it may not be the pump. Anyway, then if it was the pump they would have to contact Cummins and order the pump from 'STAR' who ever they are. SO it was going to take 4-6 days. I ask if it would hurt to drive until they weren't so busy and was told no problem.

Anyway, when my pump from Summit get here I will install it.

So much for caring customer service.

Get the ""hurt to drive until they weren't so busy and was told no problem" " in writing. Apparently my LP died a long time ago, but I could still here it run each time I fired up. Then, at 89K, injection pump died. If they want to kill your injection pump and give you a newone, well, new is always better than old.

If you put a diffrent lift pump on your truck other than a DC /Cummins lift pump . And the injector pump fails , the dealer and DC will not warrant you a new injector pump thats big bucks some thing to think about ? Ron Bissett in LOUISVILLE KY:-{}

I thought I was doing them a favor by notifying them of a bad lift pump in order to save the Inj. Pump. Oh Well.

Went to a different dealer today. The guy climbed up on the truck, reached down while another guy bumped the starter. He said he could feel the pump running, (even though you can't hear it) so I had pressure. Said my senders must be bad. Would not hook up his guage, said there was no need since the pump was running and the truck started and ran.

I'll get my own mechanical guage and check.
