Hi All!

First time poster, long time reader.

My truck died today. I installed a powermax 3 w/ guages (used) on my truck tuesday night. I' ve driven about 300 mi since, w/ no problem until this morning. My brother was with me (he is also a diesel head) so I had to show off a little. my tst was set on power level 5 and I slammed the pedal down and held it there, I dont believe my egt was to high but the truck died after approximately 5 sec or less. I have pressure (6 lbs. ) from the lift pump I am not getting any fuel when i removed an injector line. Is there any way to check the pump without the $400 diagnostic tool. Could there be an electrical shut off? I have 103k mi.

6 lbs. sounds pretty low to me. Is this at idle? if so it is definitely to low. I have no less than 10 at wot. Is this pressure before or after fuel filter. From what I have read with people having this same problem soon after installing a fueling box the prognosis is not good and is expensive. VP-44 toast. What year is your truck?

I am sure others will chime in here and give you ideas. I hope mine is wrong.

Loosen the fuel line from the filter to the vp44. If fuel comes out when key is turned on your lift pump is toast. Pump could have been borderline and the extra pressure turned up by the pmax3 pushed it over the edge. Sorry. :(

my truck is a 99 w/ 103,000 mi. I am getting the 6 lbs. from the inlet port of the filter while the outlet port pegged a 7 lb. guage. this is all while cranking the engine and is in line with the service manuals specs. So far I am guessing that i need a vp44 but would like to make shure befor i sink ? into the pump. anyone know how much a pump is?

My 99 service manual states that 10psi is the minimum at idle entering the filter. From what I understand a rebuilt inj. pump is around 1300. 00 and is better than a brand new because it has been updated to fix the flaws in the original. Try Piers for a pump. I also seem to remember a post with someone I think in texas that could get one cheaper. You might try a search and come across that post. http://www.piersdiesel.com/
