Bought my 2004. 5 3500 SRW new. It's now 2 years old and I'm thinking of adding a Quadzilla XZT tow module only. (261. 90 shipped)

Combined Gross Vehicle towing Weight of 17, 200 with my trailer. It has plently of power, just put the 6 speed manual in 5th for 6% or more grades. My main reason for a box is to get better MPG. I know the consensus is to add gauges. But is this really required?

if towing heavy, Id say they are needed. When towing heavy with any box, Id say they are a must have... Save yourself they headache and spend the 250. 00 bucks to save your 40-50K truck.

Yeah, considering that I hit 1400 degrees pre turbo on a STOCK motor. Repeatedly hit 1400 degrees. I'd say gauges are a good idea, even on a stock motor. I have no doubt that had I not backed out of it I could have pushed it all the way to 1500 degrees. I feel a lot better towing heavy on the hills knowing how much boost and egt I've got going on.

I think a $100 pyro is VERY cheap insurance on a $5k+ motor, and a transmission temp gauge is mandatory if you tow heavy, just my opinion

I am absolutely certain that there are folks that tow 12,000 pound trailers in very mountainous areas daily... without any gauges, and do absolutely fine.

I tow an 8,000 pound 5er, in flat land (Illinois), do it 12-15 times a year, and have a FULL SET of gauges... . but I am anal, and my wife calls me a dieselhead.

I want to know exactly what is going on every second when I am driving 8 tons of "stuff" down the road.

I agree w/ Jay. Stock, pre-turbo I can easily hit 1450 or more if I didn't back out of it. That's pulling a 4 horse gooseneck aluminum that goes around 10 k loaded.

I have to agree with the previous posts.

If you tow, gauges are a must have mod.

I dont tow as of yet but installed a pyro and boost for peace of mind.

Soon to be installed is a transmission gauge.

Mine is a bone stock 05.

The way I look at it is Better Safe Than Sorry.

so is it best ot go with individual analog gauges or go with something like the BD X-monitor or personal choice? I'm fighting with this choice right now.

Use 2 small tie wraps where the rubber hose slips over the barb fitting on the Westach dual combo gauge, pull 'em tight and you shouldn't have a problem. I've been running mine since late 2001 and a boost leak at the back of the gauge (you'll hear it if you have one!! ) was the only problem I had. Reinstalling the hose as above took care of that. :-laf
