Well, it is that time again. Corn is ready to pick. Each of the last 4 years, I have planted an acre of silver queen sweet corn and given away most of it to the associates at my work. This year, I finally got some rain and the harvest was great. I had so much that I had to haul it to work in my 5'x9' trailer. Also, I did not want people climbing and pawing all over my new-to-me truck to get their share. As expected, everyone got their fill and all are grateful. I started home yesterday after work and fell into that daze like every other day. After driving down my drive, I positioned to back up to my large trailer, which has been storing lumber for the deck I am building. I totally forgot I had that silly little trailer behind me and I backed up, jack-knifing the trailer and bashing my pass side rear quarter panel. I was so sick I damn near fell to the ground and puked! Now, I will have to teach myself body repair. There are several creases and kinks. No easily repairable mild dents, plus the paint cracked and chunked off.

I really have been sick all today and I am dreading calling a bodyshop Monday. I know I will have to fork over $500 or more.

Just wanted to share my miserable experience with the group!

Really.."I feel your pain"!!!!

Hard to imagine right now. . but you will get it fixed... and I can tell you that you'll NEVER allow that to happen again...

I Can only guess what is going through your mind right now... .

I've been close... . felt like I RUINED my truck...

But Like I did... . you'll get through!!. .

Dang... It hurts to think about it!!!

When you work so hard to finally get the Prize truck you've always wanted . . it's hard to let it get hurt...

But to keep it in perspective... . Sheet metal and paint can be repaired... . If that trailer came loose. . and someone got hurt. . or Worse..... well... that thought alone puts it in perspective...

Good Luck!

And best wishes for a SPEEDY RECOVERY... ;)

GUILT TRIPS

Old German Proverb; "Too soon we grow oldt, not soon enough schmart". A little money, a little paint, your ride will be good as new, and you'll get over it, (may take a while). Things could've been a lot worse, at least no-one was hurt. :) And as stated before, you won't do THAT again! Let it go, chalk it up to the learning curve, (or Murphy's Law).

Been there, did it!

I did the EXACT same thing with a borrowed jet ski. It put a pretty good sized dent in the box below the rub strip and damaged the aluminum trailer too. The owner of the jet ski was sitting next to me at the time! I ended up costing me $300 for the truck (gasser-had it sold-gave the new owner the estimate and best wishes) and a couple cases of beer plus the evening to repair the trailer.

I know how it hurts. My truck was exactly 1 week old when a sign post ran out behind me. Bent the bumper and scratched the right rear fender. I wouldn't even get out and look at it.

Misery loves company

I did the same thing with a snowmobile trailer, I would have liked to have been double jointed so I could have kicked myself in the @**, hard! LOL

A little time and money and things will be well again. It could have been worse, at least no people were hurt.

I built a dump bed utility trailer when I was learning to weld.

I was hooking up to it to use it for something and pulling out of the driveway. My daughter started yedding Dad! Dad! at me. I yelled back and told her that I'd be with her in a minute. I then proceded to pull the railing off the front porch. I forgot that I had chained the trailer to the proch to prevent thefe.

This was a few years ago and my daughter and I laugh about it every now and then.

Thats a pretty good one about pulling the railing off the porch. I done a few in my 53 yrs. Want tell all but-backed into 92 honda civic I had -drop hitch got it(told the wife somebody did it in parking lot),got my tractor stuck in tank and then high centered it in another tank, forgot to put pins in links on stablizers bars tractor- box blade shifted poked hole in tire, cost 335+new tire/tube. Tree limb hung on lug on tractor tire and came up hit fender and cracked it(that was older tractor I had)Then 3-15-98 hit tree in 95 I had=put end to truck and me too. In hospital several months/theraphy and 11months before I went back to work. And the list goes on. See what you started now. :D

O. K. my turn, I went to see my Mom in the hospital, when looking for a place to park in a underground garage (my old Dodge, '64), I almost passed the only spot left, went to back up, felt a little resistance, gave it more and backed up and parked. Got out to fing a little MG "mating" with my trucks behind! Yup that was the "little" resistance! The guy said "I guess I pulled up too close", I was lucky... had a witness. Just another "thats my spot" thing.

ROFLMAO Wish I was there to see that... . Who got to keep the spot? Or did you just share it? LOL :D :D :D :D

I too feel your pain

Took a week off for vacation, decided to take wifey to Bush Gardens, Williamsburg (been promisin' to take her there for 6 years). Spend the day watchin' the shows with her,(her favorite part), came back to find out that some %*&##$&*^#*% lowlife KEYED MY TRUCK

Estimate is $325. 00 to repaint the tailgate, and the right wheelbox.

Guess next time I'll take HER truck:rolleyes:

Sorry to hear it David, had that sick feeling myself a few times in my life, but as everyone says it will pass. Good luck on the repairs hope it works out ok. chuck.

Bummer, but you'll survive. That's what they make malox for. LOL As other have said, it could have been worse. Another been there done that. I hit a pot hole in a gas station lot and the truck 'bounced' into a ballard protecting the dispenser. Took out the bumper. I don't try to cut things so close anymore.

BTW the entire side of the box can be replaced. Found that out after a backhoe hit my PSD in the left rear corner. It cost about $1100. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's a much better job than using bondo. They used some zinc based paint underneith, where the side was welded to the box, so in theory it shouldn't rust. Of couse, then they dropped the bed when they were moving it out of the shop, but that's another story.

Good luck.

I've said it before... and I'll say it again.....

EEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!

Got the Pi$$ $hivers seeing that pic!!!!!

Larry

Hey Herrlich, That must have been a real sick feeling!

Gilroy... isn't that where the Garlic fest is? When is that? Any website?

OK, I didn't see this one so I'll fess up. I unhooking my fiver. I pull the release handle. Stuck. I pulled again harder. Still wouldn't work. I pulled the heck out of it. It released. My fiver went right down on my bed rails because I forgot to put the legs down. Stupid? And I really felt bad because the powers to be were trying to tell me something by making me pull the lever so hard. Did I listen??? My bed rails had a nice 5 inch or so dent. No way I could fix that kind of dent.

The guy at the body shop said I wasn't thie first and wouldn't be the last. But like stated above, I will NEVER do that again.
