2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2002 aluminum rims on 96 truck..

These past few mornings have been close to freezing, and my heater does not work until the water temps reach around 190*, then I hear a "clunk" and the heat finally works.

Two possible clues:

•I think it's only if I forget to turn the heat on right away when I start the truck... if I leave the cooler air on, then try to switch to warm, it does it.

•I'm not sure if it "clunks" every time... because I don't recall a clunk the last time.

Any ideas?

I have had this very some going on intermittently for close to a year. I would describe the sound as a "pop". The reason I found for this is the blend door is sticking somehow and then pops loose and starts working again. Sometimes I have to wiggle the blend door motor under the dash then I hear the "pop" and everything is normal again.

Yep, "pop" is more like it.

Is this something I may be able to get some warranty work out of? It's really annoying, but I don't have the cashola to get mechanic work done... and I doubt it's something I'd fix myself.

Not sure, did you still have the bumper to bumper warranty? Mine does this randomly and hasn't acted up in the last six months. If mine did it all of the time or be came annoying, I would take it to the dealer for warranty.

Went to the dealership today... they say it's a malfunctioning valve in the heater system, and that there is a TSB on it. I still have the warranty, so I hope so!

Now if I could figure out how to get them to replace my console top under warranty (stupid spring broke and is pushing a bubble up on top of the center console). I think it should be, anyways!

Ok, so I brought it back to the dealership so they could do some diagnostics. They searched through the TSB's and found that it may be an updated thermostat that needed swapped in.

They changed it, and it seems to work fine now... but only time will tell.

I told them I could do all the work, I just wanted them to diagnose it and give me a part... but oh well. $104 isn't too much. :eyes:
