Ok i just got this truck and its driving me crazy... . now my horn only works with the tilt steering wheel all the way up... . anyone got any ideas where to start to fix this... grrrrr... I hate not being able to tell other drivers to get the hell out of the way... . lol... thanks Russ

The horn on my 98 sux too.

It will always work, problem is you need a 20 lb sledge hammer to activate it.

Been back to the dealer for it, they said "it's normal".

The clockspring recall does not involve model year 1999. Although the horn circuit uses clockspring wires, the symptoms described by RMcNee don't sound like the clockspring to me.

Since the problem reveals itself at one extreme of the wheel tilt, I think removing the steering column shroud and wiggling wires will find a loose connector or broken wire. I'm betting on the connector being pulled as the wheel is tilted - to the point of losing electrical contact.

SO how much of a pain the the *** is that... to remove the steering shroud... one thing after another... also found out that the seat does not move up or down, on the power side... already had the switch out to clean it so it would move back... but the back motor is not working at all... grrrrr... startin to wonder about this great deal I got on this truck???

I've never removed the shroud. Many on this board have - it's removed when replacing the multi-function (turn signal) switch.

The FSM wants you to disconnect the battery grounds anytime you're working on the column near the airbag. It looks to me as though you need to unscrew the wheel-tilt lever and remove a few screws to get the shroud off.
