OK fellas I have one for you, on my trip up north to do some fishing this past week I lost all of my instrument gauges and compass as I was pulling out of the driveway to leave? I had nothing, no speedo, Tach, oil pressure, fuel, temp or compass??? After I got home I hooked up my Smarty to read the codes and got the following:

P-1698 - CCD not communicating with ABS, no CCD / J1850 from TCM/PCM ( whatever the hell that means)

P-1687 - No cluster bus message

P-1694 - No bus message from ECM

Odometer says 'no bus' and compass says 'ccd'

I had Capitol Dodge do the brakes on my truck before I went camping at Lake Tahoe back in May, have not driven the truck since that trip but did not have any issues with the gauges on the trip.

I just installed two new batteries before this trip, did not take both out at the same time. I replaced the passenger side battery then replaced the drivers side battery, did I screw up something in the computer?

Any ideas or suggestions would be most helpful

Thanks

Dave

Shot in the dark but I would disconnect both batteries for about 20 minutes then rehook them up. Try resetting the codes before you disconnect. At least it's cheap to do.

I would find a common demonator for the components that are giving you problems which seem to be the CCD and the Bus. I believe there is a Bus under the dash and /or hood don't know where the CCD is located.

Bus= relay station for data among components (ECM,PCM, instruments... ) instruments(guages) are the last component to get the message (data).

Where would I find this bus and what am I looking for? I am a real novice when it comes to electrical componenets.

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

The CCD (Chrysler Collision Detection) data bus isn't just one item, it refers to a complete multiplexed communications system within the vehicle consisting of all the sensors, wiring, and computer modules (the ECM, the PCM, ABS, etc. ). The word "collision" in the title refers to the way the communications system prevents data signals from colliding and conflicting with each other.

As others have suggested in a different thread you started, first try pushing in your instrument cluster to see if that fixes the problem.

If that doesn't work, the problem might be a simple short or open wire in the CCD data bus... or it could originate from a failure within the ECM or PCM. A Chrysler DRBIII Scan Tool could be essential to pinpointing the problem.

Good luck,

John L.

John,

Thanks for clarifying that for me. . I was drawing a blank on what CCD was? I have the batteries disconnected now and will reconnect them tomorrow to see if that helps. I will also give the cluster a gentle nudge to see if popped out any.

If this doesn't work then it's off to the dealer to see what kind of raping they will do to me to fix this thing.

Thanks again.

Dave
