Arggh! Hot Water Heater Contaminated?

Hauled my horse trailer yesterday with my '06 Mega Cab and discovered I had no left brake or signal lights on the trailer. All running lights were OK. All truck lights were OK. All connections are good. Initially checked for fuses... . all were OK. Verified ground was good. Checked the output at the connector on the truck and found 5V. Now I know it's not a fuse. Never expected to see 5V on a trailer connection. This must be an output voltage from a controller. Anyone every have this problem?

I've read on this forum, that the 06 and up have a computer (couldn't think of a better word) that controls the current to the trailer... . I'm assuming that you've overloaded the left turn/stop light circuit and its not functioning...

I'm aware that there is an upgrade to the software that has to be performed by the dealer... he resets the computer to a higher current limit... the dealer goes into the computer with a scan tool... . and changes the load that the circuit trips at... ...

On my 04, 04. 5 and 05 we have a separate fuse and relay for each circuit going to the trailer connector..... and we'd either change the fuse or relay... .

Hope this has helped... . I can only assume you need to see your dealer... .

Thanks for the info. I dropped my truck off at the local dealer this afternoon, explained my findings and info provided on this site. At first the Service Manager dismissed the whole computer theory, blamed it on a faulty trailer wiring and that I had probably only blew a fuse & it would not be a warranty item. 30 minutes later he sheepishly informed me that the TIPM required reprogramming according to Service Bulliten 08-021-06 and it is considered a warranty item. Thanks for the input. I hope this post helps someone else with the same problem.
