I was told by several dealers that none of the paints in 2012 will contain metalflake because all the metal flake was made in the part of Japan hit by the tsunami. Has anyone else heard this? They are offering some of the same colors, such as sagebrush and saddle brown, that they did this year. Will they just come without the shimmer?

I was told Molten Red was the same as the Cherry Red, but without the metal flake component it becomes a deeper shade of red.

I haven't hit the dealers lately since I'm perfectly happy with my 2011, but the situation you describe could well be factual. A number of colors were on restricted availability and ordered vehicles experienced production delays in late 2011 due to unavailability of the pigmentation mentioned since there apparently was a single source that got wiped out in the Japanese earthquake/tsunami. This situation affected Ford as well - not sure about GM.

It's true. It affected GM as well as Audi. I would imagine pretty much all brands.

Backup cameras are also affected. Audi is releasing their vehicles without the camera, but it will be a dealer installed upgrade when they are available as no charge warranty.
