A while back I relocated my stock LP to the frame near the tank with the idea of adding a better, more reliable pump but keeping my stock pump as a back up. I am done with this little project and it came out great and works like a charm. I will never be left with a bad pump nor will I ever have to crawl under the truck and try to change one on the side of the road to get home, ever. I used a FASS95 as my main pump.

In the first picture you can see the stock pump on the left near the tank. The FASS is on the right. I have two ball valves that are now in the position to allow the FASS pump to supply fuel to the engine. The left valve is open allowing the supply line from the tank to travel through the blue hose to the inlet of the FASS. It leaves the FASS and enters the Tee on the right, but with the right ball valve closed it has to push fuel to the engine.

In the second and third picture the left valve is closed allowing the stock pump to draw fuel from the tank. The pump inlet is on the left. The right valve is open, allowing the stock pump to feed fuel to the engine through the Tee. Using the valves in this position with the stock pump only requires unplugging the electrical connection from the FASS and plugging it into the stock pump, and turning two valves. I have a new pump in the system. I can do any repairs to the main pump at my convenience where I choose.

The FASS instructions have you hanging the pump off the brace under the cab, which of course transfers all the vibrations to the cab. I cut the tab off the mounting bracket, drilled and tapped two holes in it, and bolted that to a bracket I made that attaches to the frame. This also allowed me to mount the pump inline with the frame instead of at right angles to it. I made a 90 degree fitting for the inlet side of the Fass to allow this.

... So, tell us, how often DO you wash and polish the underside of your truck? :-laf:-laf

Nice clean install, and VERY clean bottomside of the truck itself!

That part of the frame looks clean probably because of the fuel that I wiped off of it. I do hit the underside with the hose when I wash the truck though. I also painted my drivelines when I had the transmission out. Doesn't everyone spend as much time under the trucks as we do in them:-laf?

rather than have to unplug and plug the pumps, why not find another pig tail for the stock pump and mount a on/off/on switch so you're completely automatic? just a thought to take it to the next level. Also, how bout a pre-filter. Looks like you put a lot of thought and time not to mention $$, looks great, definately a model to work from. Great job.

Gary, I did consider a switch, I have the pigtail from when I relocated my stock pump back to the tank, but I have to get under there to throw the valves anyway so I thought I was over-complicating things with a switch. I was going to place it under the hood. I am hoping that I will not very often have to even do that. I don't really foresee having any troubles with the FASS although anything can fail. I really just wanted to have a second pump all ready to go to eliminate any possibility of being stranded somewhere. I didn't use the little inline filter that comes with the FASS because I didn't want that to be a problem and clog. I have to admit I'm still thinking about that aspect of it. I think the pumps will pass anything likely to get in the tank, they have so far, and anything that would clog a pump is going to be a real problem at the front filter also. Other than the cost of the FASS pump, I only have a few bucks in this for fittings and hose, I made the rest myself so only time was spent there and that is free.

Great looking install, my new FASS 95 is in the box on my bench. I didn’t know that the FASS 95 could be mounted horizontally like that I thought the weep hole need to be down.

The supplied bracket mounts the pump in exactly the orientation in which I mounted it, I only mounted it to align with the frame. The FASS bracket is made in two halves and is clam-shelled around the pump which is loose within it until you tighten the four bolts down. My pump is mounted with the weep hole down, as required by FASS. If you look carefully you can see the weep hole above my bracket in the first picture. It is on the aluminum pump housing just forward of the FASS bracket (I painted the bracket black).

when you purchase the pump only, the weep hole is on the side as mounted, my pump only 150 is mounted the same way.

when you purchase the pump only, the weep hole is on the side as mounted...

the pump can spin in the mount and is posed to be mounded with the hole pointed straight down

i also thought the outlet of the pump had to be facing the front of the truck???

notice yours (all2) is sideways

don

I bought the pump in the kit and it is stated by FASS that "there is a small hole in the base directly next to the electric motor, this hole must aim directly to the ground". With the hole down as mounted, the inlet and outlet have to come out of the pump horizontially

Don, I made a custom bracket to allow mounting next to the frame, it doesn't really matter where the inlet and outlet are in relation to the truck as long as that hole is aimed down.

Crash, I was surprised at how quiet the pump is, it is the newer one with no exposed brushes and it is actually quieter than the stock pump by a long shot. The stock pump kind of rattles and whines but the FASS is more of a hum not even noticed in the cab or standing near it.

After driving with the new pump for a few days I notice a few differences from the stock pump. First, the pressure is up to around 16psi where the stock pump at the frame gave around 15 at idle. The FASS seems to respond more to the pedal, dropping slightly when accelerating and coming back up letting off but with a quicker movement. With my mods I can't draw it below 13, an improvement over the stock LP.

same subject, only different: I want to install a Fass or Airdog, do I leave the stock pump and have the new pump feed the old? Do I eliminate the stock pump ? Do i leave the stock pump for backup only? Do I buy a Fass or Airdog?

If you install a FASS or Airdog pump you don't need the stock pump anymore unless you choose to do something like I did as a backup. Yesterday I helped a friend install the same FASS as I bought and we left the stock pump in the stock location as well as the stock fuel lines. If ever needed, the outlet of the stock pump could be attatched to the filter inlet and the stock pump used again. You don't need a pusher pump for the FASS-style pump.

Another Clone of Gary, I think they share the use of a car wash and take turns washing and polishing their trucks for show room display and drive a beater in real life. No one can keep his/her truck this clean, even if they own the care wash. LOL

Very nice install, I am very jealous!!

Allnew2Me - since I'm new to CTD and have been reading the various threads re: the stock pump, this is very helpful to me as another way to resolve the stock pump issue (which is on the top of my "to do's"). I like the idea of using the stock pump every now and then because eventhough you switch back to the FASS, fuel is sitting in the stock pump to keep it lubed (vs. the possibility of inner parts/seals drying out). Thanks

California is not hard on vehicles except for the sun. And of course the fact that people drive like a bunch of knuckleheads.
I Love It!! And that's before they start dialing their phones. .

Another thing that opens up more options for plumbing your backup pump is I have found pulling fuel through the FASS 150 is no problem, say if the motor on it were to quit. . (not that, that's ever happened or anything. . :-laf)

I don't know if the FASS HPFP has the built-in bypass, but the ones with filters do and might work pretty well as a supply for say possibly a. . "RASP" up front?? ;)
