Will my wife notice if I take off the muffler and leave the resonator? I am going to use the Genos muffler removal kit. I am going to put on the AFE air filter also to get a little more turbo whine;) I know I will like the sound as long as the resonator takes care of the dreaded drone, but I dont want to hear my wife complaining about the noise on a long trip with the trailer behind us:mad: I also have an ez as it says in my sig.

Just did the same thing your talking about last week... Wish I would have done it a year ago. Left the resonator on and eliminated the muffler. At idle, its not to much louder. You will notice a major difference at WOT. Just cruising in town or down the highway it sounds good, not to loud. Hope this helps!

One thing to watch out for is to much turbo wine. My aftermarket filter and opened up pipe makes it painfully loud on long heavy haul hills. My buddy and I bring ear plugs cause it splits the head so bad sometimes. And thats only running 20 on the boost gauge. Its worse in the passenger seat which is where I'm guessing the wife will be. It might help if the intake wasn't pointed back at the cab though

I HAVE AN AFE FILITER WITH THE SILENCER RING REMOVED AND OPEN 4" EXHAUST. IT IS NOT TOO MUCH LOUDER IN THE CAB OUTSIDE IS A DIFFERENT STORY. MY GRILFRIEND DIDN'T NOTICE THE DIFERENCE UNTIL WE WERE IN THE DRIVE-THRU AT WENDY'S AND WE COULDN'T HEAR THE CASHIER (HA HA HA) BUT OTHER THEN THAT IT REALLY ISN'T THAT MUCH LOUDER IN THE TRUCK. YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE.

Just replace the whole system with a 4" down pipe and 4" or 5" straight pipe. It's sounds great either way and with the dreaded drone you won't be able to hear your wife complain anyway.

My seat seems to vibrate around 2k when getting on it now that the muffler is gone. Certain RPMs its noticeably louder. ie the vibrating seat.

Just got done removing the muffler and resonator on my truck with the help of some real good friends. In cab noise is not much different, just a little more bass tone (as long as the windows are closed). Outside the truck, or with windows open, there is a real difference. Sounds like a demonic semi truck, and I love it. My wife isn't too thrilled, but she'll live. If you drive it with a light foot, it will be more throaty and a little louder than stock. If you lay into the throttle, it will loudly tell you about it. At full throttle, it will turn heads. Do it!

My wife noticed right away. She also likes it. Save the money though, and get a 4" with magnaflow muffler.

For $30 bucks, i had a spanish exchange student at a muffler shop cut out my resonator and muffler, replaced it with 3" aluminumized strait pipe. sounds AWESOME at idle and lots of great turbo sound at lower rpm's. sounds like a top fuel dragster at wot at 1800-2400 rpm. . The wife talks so much, she never noticed while in the cab. It wasn't till she was following me in her excursion 3 months later that she noticed. I'd like to get that 4" short exhaust from Source Automotive (under 300 bucks) 5yr warranty. . hope this helps. . Lee

My wife also noticed it right away and also liked it. It's not that it's noticably louder in the cab it's just more of a throaty tone. We left the silencer ring on and use the stock airbox with the snorkle removed. We still get a noticable turbo whistle and that's what I wanted.

As far as taking off the ring, I just couldn't see running down the interstate towing w/20+ lbs of boost listening to that extra volume for hours on end, the wife would prolly get irritated at that (make my life less-fun).

I took out my silencer ring, snorkle and swiss cheesed the bottom of my factory air cleaner housing. I also have my muffler removed but my resonator in. My turbo noise is pretty close to as loud as I think its going to get with no bombs. Towing down the interstate 75 mph in lockup with the hammer down the turbo has gotta be at full boost and its not a nuisance. (especially when the radio is off and i'm sticking my head in the dash to hear it more) Really though, its nothing that the radio won't drown out. But it sure sounds cool in town

I went to a 4" with no muffler and a K&N cool air intake. In all honesty the volume in the cab went up big time. Which was all right by me, I like loud. It's not a big deal except right arround 2k RPM when the cab starts vibrating. But the power and throttle response make it really worth while.

When I removed my muffler, my wife said she could hardly tell any difference. I left the resonator for now. About a month ago I took out the silencer ring and put in the AFE drop-in air filter. The only time I can tell a difference with this change is at about 2000 rpm. You can start to hear the whistle pretty good then. Just removing the muffler didn't make it that much louder to me. Good luck.

I called Rip Rook today what great guy. I almost bought the whole 4" exhaust but after talking to Rip he said I might be happy with just taking off the stock muffler, no high pressure from him to but anything so I headed off to NAPA and 20 bucks later I have the parts to take off the muffler:D I decided to buy an ehaust tip from Rip and a prefilter for the AFE. I cant say enough about Rip.
