I am presently broken down in Hinton, Alberta, Canada waiting for the local Dodge dealer to do something with my Cummins.
BACKGROUND: Have towed a 28 foot fifth wheel to Canada with no problems. I disconnected the trailer and went on a sight-seeing trip and parked the truck. Came back after a short walk and started down the road again. Soon, I heard a chime and a message to check gauges. Everything looked normal. Then the oil pressure dropped to 0, and as I watched it went back up to 40 and alternated between 0 and 40 at about a 5 second interval. I parked the truck and had it towed to the nearest dealer, Hinton Chrysler, Hinton Alberta.
Dealer replaced the sending unit and instrument panel gauge still doing same. Dealer then checked oil pressure at Schrader valve and some port on the oil filter--both showed no oil pressure. They then checked pressure with a gauge at the pressure sending unit port and that also showed no pressure.
They think posssibly a bad oil pump, or disconnected oil pickup tube, or a blockage someplace. They do not seem to be too sure.
HELP.
