First off about a 1 1/2 years ago I put a new oil pressure sensor in my 99 and had the computer flashed to accept the new updated sensor!!!!! Not long about 8 months later the oil pressure gauge started messing up. Like I was losing oil pressure, but then it would come right back on. Almost like you you'd cut the power and then give it back. It would do that awhile then it would work for the rest of the day. Then after a few months of that it decided it didn't want to work at all anymore. Since I figured it wasn't the oil pump I kept driving without the gauge reading. I just put a new sensor in it and it still doesn't work!!! When you turn the key on the gauge comes up to the "0" on the gauge and falls off when you turn the key off. I checked for codes and no codes, even with the "check engine" light on!!! Any ideas, ECM?, plug?, wiring harness?!!!!

First I would not drive without oil pressure indication until I installed a mechanical gauge. and verified there was oil pressure. If that is ok wiring at the sensor and gauge. Check ground pints ,you need a wiring diagram for that. Do you have a tilt steering wheel? Do you use it often? If yes there have been problems with the wiring and connections between steering and dash. Ground problems with these trucks when they get older is sometimes the problem.
Hope this is some help.

You might have been given older sensor for the original ecm software, which I don't think will work properly with the reflash software.

Could be a ground issue with the sender or it could be a guage issue. To test the guages hold down the TRIP button, turn the ignition to ON and release the TRIP button. The instrument cluster will go through a test sequence. First the odometer, then all the indicator lights and then all the guages. It takes about 15 seconds on my '02.

Yes I guess I can be called an idiot for driving my truck without the oil pressure gauge working, but I did do some checks myself!! Since my post though, the gauge did start working and then not working again, so my guess is its a ground issue, but I'll be sure to check your "Tips"!! Thanks for the help fellas

What brand of oil filter are you using ? Have you tried a mechanical gauge... ?

Pretty easy to hook up as a temp gauge...
