VP44 / No Power/ EZ Edge story.

Yesterday, it rained. And then it rained some more. The church I'm a memeber of flooded, so I went down there w/ my shop vac and brooms to help out. Drove the dodge of course. About 1/2 way there, all of a sudden, I had a loss of power after about 1/4 throttle. I could accelerate up to about 20mph normally, but then the truck was a dog. I could get up to 55mph, but not very fast. I could get the boost gauge to move only about 1psi. I thought "turbo hose", but there was no black smoke out the tailpipe. I checked the hoses anyway and found no problems. The I unhooked the EZ, drove the truck, and it behaved like a perfect stock truck. So, it could have been water in the connectors, from all the rain, or my EZ could have taken a poop. I'm letting it dry today, and will hook up the EZ and test. If it turns out to be the EZ, I'm sure they'll stand behind the product. Just thought I'd share.

Edge is an awesome company! They will stand behind their product, no questions asked!

God Bless on the clean-up... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . and whatever you do, please do not call it an "act of God".

Mine acted the same as you describe. It turned out to be my VP. I know you don't want to hear this but that's what it was. I did call Edge as I could tell that there was something foul with my EZ, and they stood behind it. No problems. The mechanics of my dead VP are fine, but the electronics were what failed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The church should be fine one way or another. It's a rented space, so the owner should have flood insurance to cover carpet and (not so)drywall replacement. The water was just enough to soak the carpets, nothing more.

Are you serious?? Do all the following criteria match with your experience?

1. You had an EZ.

2. The truck was a dog after 20mph.

3. The truck made no boost.

4. The truck didn't smoke.

5. You turned the truck off and restarted it and the symptoms stayed the same.

6. You removed the EZ and the truck acted perfectly nomal, like a stock truck should.

You've got me a little worried. But, most of the VP44 crapola threads have the truck shutting off, or starting hard. Mine didn't do either. I checked the codes and it did show some. I'll have to post them tomorrow. Have you posted a thread about it? If so, can you provide a link, I'd like to read it. Are there any dead giveaway codes that are set when a vp44 is dying?

I've had an EZ since they came out.

Mine behaved like this. the throttle would respond just fine up to about 1/4, but beyond that point there was no more. Zip, zilch, nada.

I determined it was the VP for sure by using my FMS and my laptop. The FMS would indicate that the pump was not fueling past 15, regardless of what the pedal was doing. Anything between 10-15 (less than 1/4 throttle) it responded just like it should've. To eliminate the ECM being the problem, when the truck was going through one of these episodes, I connected my laptop to the truck with my OBD-II software and cable. Then I could see what the APPS was doing and how the pump was responding. It turned out the ECM was getting input throughout the full travel of the APPS but the pump just wasn't responding. Hence, the VP electronics being bad. I replaced it with a new one, and it's been fine ever since.

Sorry, to break the bad news to you, but I think you'll find similar results when you test the system.

Let me know if you want more information or if you have questions.

Good Luck.

I drove my truck this morning to work to see how it behaved and it was normal. This afternoon, I'm going to hook the EZ up and see if I can duplicate the problem. Was your problem intermittant? Do you think the EZ could have gone "bad" and cause the same symptoms?

Here's how my situation went down.

It started with this thread. Go down towards the bottom to see how it started.

Here's another fella who had a similar problem. It turned out to not be the VP, but I gave a good description of how I found m problem in this thread.

Anyway, my problem was intermittent also. But it will become more and more frequent until it just won't work right at all. That's exactly what mine did.

It's too bad you're so far away, I'd love to help you figure out what's wrong for sure. I'm sure someone near you would be willing to help.

Had this exact problem last month after a hard downpour. Turned out to be water in my connections. I took all of them loose and sprayed PB blaster in them to dry them out, then resealed them with dielectric grease. Haven't had any probl;ems since

Reduaram,

Where are you located? I have an OBDII laptop and scanner software and we could watch the problem develop on the road.

I am central florida, Winter Haven

I'm located in NC. I appreciate the offer of the obdII software and diagnosis, but it's a little far to drive.

This is encouraging. I'm going to hook the EZ back up this afternoon on the way home and just wait for the problem to repeat itself if it ever does. If nothing happens, I'll leave well enough alone.

I hooked the EZ back up yesterday and drove about 30miles without incident. I'm calling it good to go and blaming it on water in the connectors until it happens again (while dry).
