New to me 2003 CTD Dually. Started this morning with no power steering at idle, once I get above 1500 RPM it seems fine. Fluid level was at the 'fill' mark. Filled to the correct level. Drove it some, cycled the steering lock to lock a couple of times. No change. There is a slight moaning when trying to steer at idle. Is my pump (at the front of the motor) going? or is it likely something else I should check first?

I recently had the same problem; I also had a leak on my ps box as well; that prompted me to get a Redhead steering box / defiant box brace. My box was toast at 60K miles. Very happy with the Redhead / defiant combination. I also replaced the fluid with Amsoil ATF. Lots of great power steering info on the TDR.

Sounds like your pump is going bad. Does it have red ATF in it instead of clear Power Steering fluid? That will give it a much shorter life. OEM replacement pumps are a good option for the money. I've done a lot of them, and they work good. I've heard good things about the Redhead setup, and the AGR pumps and boxes.

Had the same problem with mine. No power stearing below 1500 and almost no power brake boost. Instaled new OEM pump and its working fine.
