I am out of town and my wife tells me the power steering is out. She started the truck and let it warm up for awhile 5-7 minutes, she says. She has no power steering. Everything else works fine. She backed it out of the driveway then went back in the driveway and parked it. Granted it is winter and somewhat cold in Virginia. Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem?

The truck is less than 2 years old and has 31K miles on it.

Thanks for any help.

How are the power brakes? They are hydro boost and fed from the same pump. If the brakes are working then chances are its not the pump. Did you check the fluid?

Sometimes they like to puke the fluid out for some reason. It could have "foamed" out,or possibly the nitrogen accumulator has ruptured.

Have her or someone check and top up the fluid. If the power steering returns to normal operation, and there are no leaks,I would change it out for a synthetic.

Where you at in Cheasapeake? I work in Newport News and live in Camden, NC. I cruise through Ches. everyday. I can stop by and lend a hand if you want. Mike

Thanks for your help. The brakes work fine.

It is under warranty, so the wife called the stealer and they have towed it in, I'll be sure to post the results as I am not sure what the problem is/was.

MSTIMAC, thank you but as I am writing this I am on the USS HARRY S TRUMAN aircraft carrier on deployment in the MED. and will be gone for who knows how long. I wouldn't mind getting together with you after my trip and talk diesel over some beers tho. PM me and give me the run down on your truck or e-mail me at: curetomc@truman. navy. mil

Thanks...

Synthetic specs?

My 02 Pwr steering ''Freezes '' for a few minutes on a cold 15- 20 degree night . Would Synthetic help this, and if so, what specs or brand are you guys using?
