Is there a fuse in the fuse box that powers the brake controller? I have no juice feeding my Prodigy controller. I switched the controller to my other truck (03' dually), unit works fine but not in my Quad cab. Thanks, Frank

I think it is fused in the big fuse panel on the left front inner fender inside the engine compartment but I don't remember how it is labeled.

Check your owner's manual or lift the lid on the underhood fuse panel and review the named circuits protected by fuses.

Yeah, the brake power supply is in the PDC and is labeled something like just "trailer" and is part of the trailer tow package, there is also a relay in there. Of course the trigger power comes from the stop light switch on the truck. bg

Because loss of trailer braking power can have catastrophic results, I would consider running a heavy gage wire directly from battery +12VDC to the trailer brake controller with current protection provided by an automatically resetting circuit breaker in lieu of a fuse.

Do you have the 3rd brake light working? I had a problem with my Prodigity controller one time and called the company and they told me the fuse I think it was something to do with 5 Its been a long while ago but the 3rd brake light was out and controller didnt work replaced fuse and it worked. Have gone to Max Brake at the suggestion of H Barlow and have said thanks to him every time I step on the brake towing my TT

I'm glad you are appreciating your brake controller. I wish I was getting a commission on all the MaxBrake controllers I and other users have sold for the company that builds them. Every time a new owner posts of his satisfaction he becomes part of the sales force that sells them to other members.

In truth, my reward comes from allowing others to enjoy pulling their trailers and being able to stop them with comfort. Like all the rest of us, I've tried pulling a trailer with a worthless Tekonsha Voyager. Every stop was white knuckle.

Guys thanks for all your input. I'll check for blown fuses tomorrow. Yes, Bignasty my third brake light does work. Harvey on a side note, I look foward in reading your article in TDR'S issue 71 regarding Maxbrake Controller install. I've heard and read nothing but rave views. A maxcontroller may be in the cards for me. The next best thing to being a proud Cummins owner, is being a TDR member and having this web site with all it's members and the knowledge you all bring to the table - I thank you again, Frank.

Frank,

It was TDR member Domehead's article that was submitted for publication. He wrote it, I just helped edit it.

Domehead bought a new 2010 and found the OEM optional brake controller was useless, at least for his application, so he bought and installed a MaxBrake.

Harvey thanks for the clarification, it was a good article and sounds life a bullet proof trailer breaking system. I did check the fuse box under the hood and the fuse is a 40 amp square fuse, not blown however. I went back into the cab and followed the pigtail from the controller to the blue four wire plug that is installed with the truck trailer package to the left of the brake pedal and you guessed it the pig tail was not plugged into it !!! Plugged it back in and presto the controller works! The only thing I can think of what happened is about six weeks ago I had the core radiator replaced and when they tore apart the dash to get to the radiator they never plugged back the controller! Hopefully, thats the only thing they forgot to do - time will tell ! Thanks again, Frank
