Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No power when cold.

My buddies 01. 5 sometimes will have no power when cold - 50ish. It builds no boost and won't rev much at all.



It comes good after maybe a couple of blocks.



He has good FP with a FASS, but possibly had nada for a while until he replaced the dead LP.



Truck is 01. 5 w/ DTT and controller, DD2s and Comp.



Codes - P0622, P0753, P1765, P1693, P1740, P0216



I've suggested he clean IAT, Comp connectors and reset APSS, anything else?

First off 50 degrees is not cold :D



Second, I think its a good practice to let you engine be at operating temp before you give it a good run, your post sounds like he is starting it, and getting on it right away???? That would not be reccomeneded.
 
No, 50 isn't much on the cold scale I know :D



He isn't just romping on it from cold. He almost got cleaned up yesterday when he went to pull in to a gap in traffic and basically idled into 50 mph traffic with no power :eek:
 
It's like there is no fuel getting there - press down on gas and no go. I haven't been in his truck so this is second hand.



After a bit he has power again.
 
Kiwi, my truck does it a couple, three times a year. It does'nt set a code though. I think its the comp box. Twice I have started the truck, took off down the road and did'nt have any power, I looked at the comp and it was on level 4 which I never use. I go to change the setting and nothing happens,it stays on 4. I shut the truck off turn it back on and Its back to normal I set the box on 5 were it stays and I'm good to go.

P0622 (G) Generator Field Not Switching

Properly

P0753 (M) Trans 3-4 Shift Sol/Trans Relay

2-4 shift solenoid circuit (4-speed auto. trans. only).



P1765 (M) Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay CTRL

Circuit

An open or shorted condition is detected in the

Transmission Relay control circuit. This relay supplies

power to the TCC

Ut Oh on the VP44 :( The rest can be thrown by the smart controller as Mine does the same thing. ... . except for the 753 code . . :confused: And the Alternator / generator code ... ODD indeed.
 
I had a 1740. I pulled all connectors that I could find, made sure that there wasn't any corrosion and applied di-electric. I also found a loose ground under and in front of the PCM. Can't say what fixed it but no problem for over 30k. The 216 is not good.

My 2001 with 110k was doing same thing when cool. Problem went away. Then it died several weeks later and wouldn't start . Would start with starting fluid(found out I should have used wd-40)and run fair enough to get to dealer after some troubleshooting on my own. Dealer said codes po237(map sensor) and po216(injector pump). Tech showed me the scan tool saying I had 12 lbs. boost while engine was dead and he also bypassed ecm and truck still wouldnt start so am waiting for parts to come in to install myself.
 
Well, it was the VP44. He replaced it with a hot rod pump from ATS. Haven't dynoed it yet but it feels like it has the promised extra 90hp.
