I just sold the comp out of my truck but had been noticing some lack of top end power. now with it out there is definately a problem. it isnt that noticable, except when the convertor locks in 4th gear the turbo will surge bad and the truck falls on its face. with the comp on 5x5 and smarty on 9 I couldent really get over 1000* egt, now with just smarty the highest Ive got was 950 only part throttle, the more I give it nothing happens or it starts to come down.

I just changed the fuel filter and it seems a little better, but i change them regularly. any ideas? no engine light. no derate

yeah I got em. thanks. nothing that really points out anything about the power, or mileage for that matter. the map is odd though, considering I had the comp on it.

so i just got back from a ride on the highway. the truck just isnt fueling right.

if I go full throttle it goes nowhere, 975* max egt 18 psi boost, if I lift a little the boost gauge jumps up tp 22-23 psi and the egts start to go over 1000* its kind of hard to hold it there, but I can do it repeatedly an get the same results, slowly getting the throttle there is really no power, just when you lift a little. im dumbfounded, apps maybe?

If I remember correctly, 18 PSI boost is all the engine should see stock. The computer may be defueling due to high boost ?? You did not forget to remove the boost elbow when you removed the comp did you ?

20 psi is stock, wastegate is modified, usually makes 35, when I let off it makes 23-24 so Im pretty sure that 18 means its not getting fuel

With the comp removed, the ecm will defuel due to an overboost condition (anything over the 18~20 PSI). The comp modifies the map sensor value to trick the ecm into fueling at both low and high boost conditions.

depending on gear. 20 psi should be spec from Cummins. Like stated in previous post wastegate is modified and usually makes 35. with the comp off, in first or second gear I can still make close to 30. just not with any kind of load.

on the highway WOT is 18 and as soon as I let off its about 24. and the egt starts to climb. so boost is definately not an issue. just a gauge in this case.

well played some more today. hooked the fuel pressure gauge back up. no less than 15 psi at all times. i played with the smarty and the truck doesnt seem to like the odd numbers. I went stock and up a hill in 4th gear no boost I could hit 1000 deg. on no8 I can hit 1000 deg. full throttle in low gears 25 psi boost. no boost up hill in fourth 900-950 really pushing it.

went down the highway again, if I ease in real slow, it will build full boost, if I jump on it, no boost no power. untill I back out.

im going to monitor it in insite tommorow and hopefully come up with something.
