Yesterday my 6.7 2009 displayed the check engine light and would idle roughly and start loping and die if I step down on the accelerator pedal. When idling the engine temperature gauge climbed to above normal. HELP The local Dodge dealer came up with codes having to do with cleaning the turbo charger and DPF. I have 67K on it and the only deferred maintenance is the fuel filter is 1000 miles over the change schedule and the crankcase filter has never been changed. Prior to shutting down I had driven 50 mniles to a Dr's appointment at interstate speeds with no problems other than the check engine light being on. The truck is mostly driven at interstate speeds except when towing our 11,000 lb fifth wheel. Exhaust pipe is clean and I'm getting mpg 21 hwy and 18 in town. Last change to engine was to replace the original equiptment air filter with a K&N which improve the engine responce and the engine seemed to be breathing better.

without seeing the codes could be a clogged DPF . It's not uncommon and very expensive . Usually the interstate is the best driving for these trucks as the DPF doesn't have to regenerate as often. That K&N is not a good way to go stay with the paper filter a lot better filtration .

I see quite a few trucks that are driven for fuel mileage. These are the trucks that tend to have turbo issues. The turbo that does not see a lot of travel from one extreme to the other may stick earlier than those that do

At 67k, isn,t it due for a egr service and turbo cleaning....... cleaning a turbo, who came up with that anyways??!!:(

Just talked with the shop and they are doing a computer generated stationary de-sooting of the DPF. The service mgr said many come in for this with mileage at 40K so looks like mine was over due maybe pulling the fifth wheel helped burn out and keep it clean till now. Doing the delete of the DPF maybe the way to go. Once I see what the charges are for this repair I will have a better idea.

One question I have is according to my owners manual the overhead console should have warned me of a full DPF with a bell sound to get your attention. I have never seen any messages on the console referring "EXHAUST FILTER XX% FULL" or "EXHAUST FILTER FULL-POWER REDUCED SEE DEALER", etc is this messaging a computer glitch on my truck or is there a way to set up the console for this messaging ? I can pull up outside temp/ direction of travel, mpg, avg mpg, EDE which I guess is estimate distance till empty. Owner manual gives me no information on the DPF messages except "When the appropriate
conditions exist, the EVIC will display the following messages" Last week when the truck died because the DPF was full to that me would have been appropriate !!
Should a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 QuadCab Cummins 6.7, auto have this type messaging ???
