I have a 96 12v, 2500 ext. cab, 4x4, 5 spd. with 4 wheel abs and brake booster.
Couple days ago I was towing a goose neck trailer with 2 rigs on it. While towing, all of sudden the rear brakes quit working. It has been several days, and still no rear brakes at all. The fluid level is full. I checked everywhere for leaks also, but found none. I can jack up the truck, put my foot on the brakes, and spin both back tires freely. The e-brake works awesome though. It feels like it is adjusted great, and when I set it really hard, I can NOT drive through it... . it stalls the motor out. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Unfortunately when they rear brakes quit, I was towing for a long ways, and over time I over heated and warped my front rotors, so I need to replace those now also.
Could this have anything to do with the ABS pump? I don't really know how the abs system works, so I'm not sure if that could be a problem or not.
On a side note, since I got the truck (the end of last year) every once in a while the rear brakes will be ultra sensative and lock up on me and about put me through the windshield. It usually happens when the truck is cold, and will do it for the first couple of stop signs/stop lights, and then it will go away.
Thanx for any help.
