Wont start

Sounds like your lift pump has quit. Unless you have some way to pump some fuel through the system and purge the air, your dead. The truck will run without the lift pump but once you break the seal at the filter you lose prime to the inj. pump. Mine did basically the same thing last year, was running and parked in front of the hopuse, wouldn't start, dealer got it running and wouldn't replace pump because it was running. Had to have it hauled to another dealer who replaced the pump the same day. I guess the only good thing about it doesn't take long to replace the pump. It was covered by the 100,000 mile engine on mine. bg

Lift pump

Sounds like lift pump has gone I hope that it did take your injection pump with it . Do you have a fuel pressure gauge if not you should. Eric

Well once again everybody here nailed the problem, which of course I knew that the lift pump had failed after taking the line off of the output side and not getting ANY flow.

So after a buddy towing my mighty truck to the dealership with his Grand Cherokee Overland (he's also a salesman at the dealership) they got the truck in right away... I would have swapped the pump out myself but have no time this week to do it... anyway, I get the phone call from my buddy telling me that they are saying it could be the injection pump, blah blah blah and could cost up to $3500 to fix..... SO, after telling my buddy that they are all idiots, etc, thoughts in my mind of dollars signs, thinking maybe its time for a new truck... . he tells me they haven't looked at it yet :p I collect myself and hang up. The tech calls me 45 min later to tell me that its the "electric lift pump that pushes fuel through the filter assembly. . "... no really????

They will have the part tomorrow morning and after I write them a check for $450 I can have my truck back:{ :{

All in all its all ok. I needed the pump. Now I'll get a fuel pressure gauge. Question: who has the best "kit" to hook up a FP gauge on a 1998. 5 24 valve? Mechanical or electric?

Thanks for the help!

Corey
