So I recently tried to take a camping trip with my wife to go to the mountains but only made it 75 mi. and broke down at a truck stop. About 10 mi. from the truck stop the fuel light came on and when we pulled in it was very low on fuel. I was able to pull up to the pump with no running issues and shut the rig down, filled up with fuel and started up fine....as soon as I put it in gear it died and has not started since. I figured it was so low on fuel that maybe it boiled the fuel out of the lines due to being hot, so I cracked the lines at the injectors and did start getting lots of air out of the lines. I kept doing this until solid fuel came out but still no fire. Had a guy with a scan tool check for codes and nothing. I got towed back home and replaced the fuel filter, made sure the fuel bowl was clean and removed the bed and did a visual inspection of the tank to look at the fuel. Did not find anything suspect so far. I do have a Glacier Diesel Power mechanical lift pump mounted with the stock lift pump deleted. No other mod's done to the truck other than a Superchips Flashpaq Tuner. Anybody got any ideas before I throw a VP at it? 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L 2WD with Auto.

No one is going to be able to give you much help without knowing the year of your pickup and other pertinent info.

Sorry to hear your still having problems. If you are able to follow Blue Chips troubleshooting that Sno posted you will without a doubt be able to determine whether or not your VP is bad. If your getting good fuel supply to all 6 injectors with no air it is likely a bad VP but they are expensive and is better to verify before spending that much money.

The only other thing that concerns me is your mechanical pump, but if you've got fuel to the VP it SHOULD be ok. A fuel pressure gauge is cheap and would be good peace of mind before proceeding further.

Good luck and please report back with what you find.

Well, I did follow Sno's advice and went through Blue Chips trouble shoot and determined that the VP is indeed bad and have it one order....should be here Thurs. I did put a low pressure gauge on it but spoke to Rich at Glacier Diesel Power and at cranking the pressure is very low maybe only 2-3 lbs. So, hardly noticeable. I have no doubt that the pump took a dump and I'll throw one in it tomorrow. I appreciate all the help and will let you know how it goes. TJ
