Archived no start hot

Helping friend troubleshoot. 98 24 valve will start and run but after it gets warm/hot and you shut it off it will not start again it turns over but does not start. quick help on poss causes and what to check first.

lift pump, but probably the VP44 ,I remember reading a post like yours , some part in the pump fails when it's hot. Do a search using (VP44)

I understand from d/c that if you spray water on the vp-44 when its hot and it starts its the pump.

its the injection pump. Or he has too much pressure going to it if he has a aftermarket lift pump. But either way the inj. pump is getting old

I have almost the same problem. My truck will start when cold, cranks for about 1 sec. But when warm it cranks for 10 to 15 sec. and starts. I replaced the fuel transfer pump and problem went away, for about two weeks. Now its back, but I think my starter is taking a dump on me now. My starter barely turns the truck over. I even put a charger on my batteries for 2 hours and tried to start. it started but the crank was real slow. I measured the voltage to the fuel transfer pump at 12. 9 vdc. So I am lost. If you find a solution to your problem, please let me know what it was.

My Freightliner has a hard to start when warm/hot condition off and on for years. I run diesel fuel addtive which stops the hard stating.



An other member had the same problem in the last couple of weeks he put new starter on and that solved his problem.

The problems that you people have is diff. His truck will start and run fine till you shut it off then it will just crank and crank no start till you let it cool. I need to check the lp first but time has been problem. Is there a shut off sol on these trucks? Inject pump? ECM? popoff valve cause this?

If there is shut off valve it is incorporated into the injection pump. Should not have pop off valve.
