2003 3500, 6 speed manual, stock except for cold air intake.

Seems it has to be above 30 degrees now.

Its plugged in every night

Turns over fine

I can hear the grid heater solonoids making noise

No fuel in the oil

Starts right up with a shot of starter fluid

Runs normal once its going

Starts fine when air temp outside is warm

Lift pump has been swapped out, no change

It used to start fine in years past when it was cold.

What to check next??

Thanks!

Those symptoms usually accompany injector(s) failure. Might not be a bad idea to pull them and have them tested.

All fixed. I replaced the grid heater and solanoids for short money and it starts right up in the cold now. Easy job and it only took an hour to do it.

Pitcru

Starting fluid and grid heaters? I thought that was an ideal way to make "Crispy Critters" out of a truck!

You may still have another problem. These engines do not need grid heaters until the temperature is around 0*F.

Need, no. . but they do help. . especially on higher mileage motors... The injectors may be weak and need more heat but not failed.
