just bought my truck a month ago 2000 5 speed 4x4. turn on the key wait for light to go out go to start and nothing. leave clutch in and key in start position somtimes it takes 25 seconds other times i have to cycle it a few times to get it to crank over. when it cranks over it always starts easy. when i got the truck dealer told me they had to replace the fusible link? can sombody point me in the right direction.

You need to replace the contacts in the starter. I suggest not using the truck any more until you get this done as it could burn up the starter ($$$$). Any decent automotive electrical shop will have the parts and it will only take you an hour to do it. Foster Truck is a vendor here on TDR that also sells the contacts.

Godspeed,
Trent

Ditto what Snoking said as a fist try. My 99 (it's an auto so, minus the clutch pedal part) was doing the same thing I got the LarryB contacts, spent about an hour or so total and haven't had a problem in over 4 years. For $69. 00 or whatever they cost/costed me it's been a great thing to be able to say "haven't had a problem in over 4 years", especially if you factor in the cost of a new starter ?? $$$$ ?? not sure how many times more one would be than the contacts from LarryB. MHO

Check Ebay out before you buy. I just purchased a contact set on Ebay for 18. 50 plus 4. 50 shipping and they were exactly the same contact set and plunger as the one LarryB sells that my son-in-law purchase for his truck. I just put mine in yesterday and they are functioning perfectly. I would definately check Ebay first. I'm just trying to save you guys a couple of bucks with money as tight as it is today.

tried the relay with no luck new contacts should be here this week talked to the dealer where i bought it he said he replaced the starter and batteries before he realized the fusable link was bad

Got my contacts today. when i went to replace them i found the wires had came off the ignition post inside. Two broken wrenches and a few choice words later it starts. Nothin like workin on your truck at -5 deg
